I wonder how long into the movies, before he grows a mustache like Doohan had in the movies

But Scotty never had one in the original series. He's barely been established as chief engineer and you want him to go Movember all year round.
He could've done with darker hair to be honest. He doesn't really have the Scotty look but looks like some random man.

I love the Pegg casting choice for the new series. He just needs some serious suntan and a little bit of hair dye if they want him to look similar to Doohan.

But why does he have to look so similar? Pegg did a good job regardless of how similar he looked to the classic Scotty

I liked Pegg`s interpretation of Scotty. All I hope is that they don't just have him there for comic relief. Scotty is third in command for God`s sake. Well in TOS he was anyway.

Yeah, I don't want Pegg's Scotty to just become a caricature of the original. He was serious as well in the original series. Wolf in the Fold was a serious episode for him.
Does anyone think we'll ever get the "popular" catchphrase "Beam me up Scotty?" I say "popular", because it was never actually used in TOS but only variations of it. However, the version of it that has filtered into pop culture is the misquoted one.

Actually I think that actual line was used once. But not on the TV. I think Kirk said it when he wanted to be beamed onto the Klingon Bird of Prey as they were about to leave Golden Gate Park.
Edit Actually, I have just remembered what it was, Kirk said "Scotty, beam me up." Close enough? 2nd edit Didn't Pine`s Kirk yell "Scotty, beam us up!" while he and Sulu were plummeting to their deaths toward the surface of Vulcan?

But that's kind of the point I was making that there have been close variations on the phrase over the years, but never the misquoted one. I was wondering if we would ever see it in that form, finally making it official.
BTW I don't remember Pine's Kirk saying anything of the sort while with Sulu. I thought Kirk's scene with Sulu didn't involve Vulcan but that drill, and Scotty wasn't involved at the time. I don't remember Kirk and Sulu doing anything else later on together.

Sorry, you're right. That was before Scotty was on board. Actually now that I think of it, he probably yelled "Enterprise, beam us up!"

Scotty is taken far more seriously in this movie, though some of it's played for laughs, this is a much better outing for him.

Hearing the trailers it sounded like Pegg may have changed the accent a bit to match what Jim Doohan did. I know in Trek 2009, Pegg made his Scotty sound like he was from Glasgow, I think because his wife is from there. I don't know if Doohan based his accent on anything in particular. I know Craig Ferguson likes to joke about Scotty's accent from the TV show, like it's a bad parody of a Scottish accent.

I love Pegg. But I wasn't sure about him in the first film. But STID, much MUCH better. I felt he was scotty in this one. BUT, I do want to see him more serious. I want him to be a bit more badd ass like he could be.
But I really enjoyed him in STID

I love that Scotty got more to do in STID, he wasn't just comic relief this time around. I mean when he stands up to Kirk and tells him that using the photon torpedos is wrong and he rather quit than sign permission to have them aboard the Enterprise was solid piece of acting.

I was happy that he got a lot more screen time in STID. When he resigned, I immediately thought, "Damn, now he's barely going to be in it again", so I was pleasantly surprised at his side mission.

It's a good thing they went with the thinner Scotty than the original, overweight Scotty.... Overweight Scotty would never have made it to open the emergency hatch without passing out.

I loved that his little friend (Keenser?) was back in this movie. "Get down!!!"
