I loved both films but i definitely have to give it to wolf of wall street. Scorsese is just a mad genius of storytelling and the mixture of his skills and the madness of this script just propelled it over every other 2013 movie. Hustle still makes my fav list, but wolf was number one.

"The sides did cure cancer, that's why they were expensive" Rob Reiner and Jonah Hill were gold in that scene!

The scene where Leo is convincing the guy on the phone to buy while everyone in the back is snickering was pretty funny.

Dr. Pepper damn near went up my nose during that entire scene.

This movie was nearly 3 hours of relentless, depraved hilarity and I loved it. I cannot remember a time where I have laughed so hard at the theater. It was an excellent film, and probably in my top five from Scorsese.

I'll say I didn't quite love it but I extremely liked this movie. Scorsese's best IMO since Casino(though not quite that great). Probably my 3rd favorite of his behind Goodfellas and Casino. Just an awesome movie. I voted 9/10 in the poll but it's really more like an 8.5/10 for me. My #3 film of the year. This is the best DiCaprio and Hill have ever been, IMO.

Benihana....BENIHANA....BENI-****ING-HANA! Why God?! WHY?!!!! LMAO

And the cerebral palsy phase was just gold.

I loved that scene one of my favorites of the film and one of the funniest scenes I've ever seen, my only gripe is when Jordan walks in to use the phone there's an employee at the front desk, why is it during the whole crawling on the floor and down the steps that the employee didn't try to help him or do something.

I agree. I ultimately didn't even like AH, though the 2nd half is better than the first and Renner is standout in the film. But TWoWS just b****-slaps it in just about every way in terms of quality.

I'm surprised no one's discussing the scene where Jordan learns Donny is married to his cousin. The way Donny tries to deny she's his cousin, then admits it, then says "Hey, if anyone's going to **** my cousin it ought to be me."

^ That was one of my favorite scenes as well, I haven't laughed hard enough to tear up in a long time and that scene got it for me, I really do have a newfound respect for Hill now, he was fantastic in that role.

There was one thing about the plot I didn't get. Why would Jordan stepping down as head of Stratton-Oakmont have caused the FBI to back off? They were investigating him for serious crimes, so I don't see why they would've given up even if he no longer worked on Wall Street.

I think it was kind of a plea bargain thing they never made clear. He was the company's face, and that would be a massive blow.

I totally developed a girl crush on Margo after seeing this movie. Girl nailed that accent and attitude. Can we get a crossover movie with her character and Scarlett's character in Don Jon?

Unpopular opinion - AH still felt like a Russell film rather than a Scorsese film to me so I never got the comparisons between the two. I felt that the movies are quite different enough and both were great in their own rights.

You know, this film really completes a kind of trilogy with both Goodfellas and Casino since they are all done in the same vein and style of storytelling. Probably one of my favorite trilogies if so. The Departed and Gangs of New York really don't fit as well since the style is different there. It's like:

Low level blue collar crime-

then higher level blue collar crime -

and finally white collar crime

I had similar thoughts about these 3 films as well. I really love this method of storytelling.

It wasn't stepping down that was going to get them to back off. They wanted him to help them in their ongoing investigation. And they wanted EVERYONE. Not just Jordan and his company. They wanted all of Wall Street. He wasn't just going to be stepping down, he was going to be betraying his associates and others committing crimes.

Neither are my favorite of the year, but I lean toward Hustle. While Russell was very clearly influenced and channelling some Scorsese in that movie, his film featured characters who are vile, but we liked them anyway. Which is also the case with many of Scorsese's best movies (Goodfellas obviously, but also Raging Bull and Taxi Driver to a lesser extent). Not only did I not like Jordan Belfort, I could tell Scorsese thought this guy was a POS too. And that meant we weren't really cheering him on and alienated as the film progressed, but just laughing at his sheer disgusting greed, because any other emotion would make it too hard to watch for 3 hours.

WOFWS is more ambitious than American Hustle, but American Hustle pulls off its objective more fluidly. And that's why having seen both twice now, I'd likely revisit AH many more times. I am sure that I will rewatch Wolf of Wall Street. But it will be an endurance test when that happens.
