the MS conference was kind of a bummer for me.

no reall AAA exclusives to get excited for, and the X console at $500 is a dealbreaker for me.

I'm really not happy about State of Decay 2
being pushed back. I was really looking forward
to playing it in the fall. Oh, well, might just do another
run-through of the original State of Decay.

I wanna know what the trade in rates will be for current XB1 owners... as Major Nelson just mentioned on a youtube stream, it can use the External hard drives on XB1s on the XB1X.... so trading in will be much easier (hopefully)... depending on how much it is in the UK & how much we can trade our XB1s in for.... I'm gonna look into it

I know Microsoft is busy with E3 2017, but when are they going to upload preorders for the games that they revealed today, because Super Lucky's Tale looks interesting

Yeah, Super Lucky's Tale looks like it could be a lot of fun. Hopefully it's a good game, cause I'm interested in it.

Probably the weakest XBox e3 showing since 2013 imo.

Pros
* Forza 7 looks great, no Porsche DLC, return of point to point tracks.
* XBox One X has great specs. price isn't too bad for 4K Gaming.
* Backwards compat for original Xbox = Kotor, Crimson Skies, Mech Assault

Cons
* Crackdown and Sea of Thieves look like cheap last gen indie games. Both games look like they're light on story and will get old after an hour.
* No new AAA exclusive IP's
* Timed exclusives.
* No single player Rare games (No new Conker or Banjo)
* No news on Halo

Agreed. The Scorpio looks great but the conference was missable. They really aren't focusing on making exclusives that matter.

You could tell Scalebound was definitely supposed to headline this reveal.

I agree.

it seemed to be missing that one AAA exclusive game to really showcase the X's power.

instead of closing the show with Anthem, it should have been Scalebound with gameplay.

or else, Anthem should have been full exclusive or timed exclusive ( like Rise of Tomb Raider ).

TBH, the entire event wasn't actually bad in the sense that it was a good technical event.... what let it down was the content they were revealing (apart from Forza 7)... Plus, I think the fact the XB1X is $500 (£450 in the UK probably)... that helped push it down

did they not shown any Killer Instinct stuff?

I'm kind of surprised they didn't.

and the more I think about the X and MS releasing it a mere 1 year after the S, the more I feel the S was truly an unneeded "stopgap" console.

Think about it. The purpose of the S was to be slimmer ( hence the S ) and an "intro" 4K machine. It stepped its toes into the 4K market, but didn't take the full plunge.

What does the X do?

It goes even smaller ( so even more slim than the S ) and it jumps all into the 4K pool.

So, did they even really need to release the S last year?

Couldn't they have held onto the original X1 for one more year, or maybe reveal Scorpio/X at the beginning of this year or in Spring for a Summer release ( now )?

If you are shopping for a 4K set and a 4K console this fall, why would you even choose the S? If you are spending that much on a 4K set and in need of a 4K player, for a few hundred $ more, you can get a console that's really geared for that 4K tv.

Even if you were considering buying the S this summer for you new 4K tv, why would you when you could wait a few more months, save up, and get a "true" 4K machine this fall.

it seems the S is now really geared towards consumers who don't own a 4K tv, which is doubly "pointless" because then it makes the 4K player in the S useless, and the original X1 was already geared towards non-4K tvs.

Spencer mentioned at the end of the conference that Killer Instinct will support 4K on Scorpio soon. That is all they revealed. Maybe there is more news coming soon?

ah, thanks.

I figured they would have at least teased the next season of content.

I don't think they even confirmed there would be another season. They just released the trailer for Eagle last night.

4K TVs aren't expensive any more, especially smaller ones. People on a certain budget can benefit from getting a bottom of the line 4K TV and X1 S without breaking the bank.

true.

but it just seems like if you are already spending that much on a 4K tv and a console, then you could use the next few months to save up that extra $150 or $200 for the X.

I do have a feeling, though, that the S will continue to sell well this year and that the X won't sell that well this holiday.

I think the $499 price tag is a bit too steep. And I think the average consumer isn't going to be able to tell much difference between 4K on the S and 4K on the X. MS will have to sell the hell out of the X over the next few months.

MS should have skipped the S and just released the X now ( this summer ) for $399.

THAT would have been the sweet spot, imo. And a serious challenge to the Pro.

The S has already served its purpose to an extent, and will eventually replace the original X1 altogether (I think) when it gets cheap enough. It's the fat original with a power brick and no 4K playback that will become the useless one rather than the S which can apparently be sold quite cheaply already (I picked one up recently but will still be getting Scorpio).

it will be interesting to see how well the X sells this holiday. just feels to me that the 2 will eat into each other's market shares and cannibalize each other to an extent.

but I guess that's to be expected as the console makers adopt a more "smartphone" like cycle model.

Maybe. But you remember my situation as I wasn't planning to get the S at all and was going to wait and get 2 Scorpios. In the end it was too cheap and convenient to resist and meant I can leave an Xbox in my parent's home so having the full range of options available can mean there is a solution to every level of consumer.

I thought it was a good conference. I guess it all depends on what games you like to play? There were a bunch of games that I'm excited for: Forza7, Metro, Ori, Cuphead, Shadow of War, Crackdown 3, The Last Night, Sea of Thieves, Anthem, Super Lucky's Tale. And then with Bethesda, I'm looking forward to The Evil Within 2 and Wolfenstein 2.

I thought all of those looked great.
