AOS managed to squeak out a 1.1 rating in 18-49, a 4 share and 3.58 million total. A big drop off from the 2015 premier, but not terrible given the new time slot, the competition, ABC's struggles in that time period, blah, blah, blah.

Prediction - AOS will not only finish out the year with a full 22 episodes, but will be renewed for a 12 episode final season starting in January, 2018. The program will be subtitled "Countdown to Infinity" and sorta/kinda lead into "Avengers: Infinity War" in May of 2018.

I thought their premiere would've been a bit higher with the DWTS lead in. Unless people just turned off their TVs in rage when that tosser Lochte didn't get voted off.

Huge +3 increase though, 82%. Live+3 was 2.0.

S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s 2.0 L+3 rating in Adults 18-49 and 5.5 million total viewers closed the gap a bit with last season’s premiere (-35% in L+SD 18-49). These are S.H.I.E.L.D.’s best numbers since its winter finale December 8 2015.

ABC has had some really disappointing performances up to this point in this very young fall TV season:
Once Upon a Time - 1.2 (season premiere)
Notorious - 1.13 (series premiere -- likely dead on arrival)
Secrets and Lies - 1.0 (season premiere)
Quantico - 1.0 (season premiere)
Dr Ken - 0.9 (season premiere)

If the trend holds for some of the shows yet to premiere, SHIELD may be a little better off than I thought.

It's going to have to stay in the 0.9-1.1 range most of the season, though. If it hits a 0.8 or below before the midseason break, I'd say it's a goner.

And I was one of them because 10:00 is pretty late for me on a weekday.

SHIELD lost two tenths last night:
0.9 rating, 3.12 million viewers

very poor result. If it's already fractional now it'll be getting some TV test pattern-like ratings in the spring.

Kiss this show goodbye.

Until other numbers come in, this again looks very lockstep with how Agent Carter fared on its second week with the third episode- since the first two episodes aired back to back- which got an 0.9/3 and was watched by 2.90 million. Again, I think Ghost Rider is a huge draw that puts it above Carter a bit, but not by a metric ton.

The mere fact that it's getting Agent Carter level ratings pretty much negates the premise that Ghost Rider is a draw.

I do hope we get another season. Been good stuff this season so far. I also hope we get a lot more Ghost Rider outside AoS

The unrounded preliminary rating is even worse -- 0.881

Slight chance it could adjust down to a 0.8 in the finals

or up, as is typically the case with this show

Ghost Rider is going over well, but the audience was already gone
hopefully he at least helps them to hold on to the viewers they have left

It wasn't going to adjust up to a 1.0 out of a 0.88 preliminary. That would be a massive adjustment. It would have had to pick up over 0.07, whereas to adjust down it only would have had to lose 0.035.

As for the actual final rating, there was no adjustment. We'll have to wait a few days to find out what the unrounded final number is.

This all goes back to that first freakin season! If the writers and "fans" of the show would have shut up with the "if you don't like it, then don't watch" crap, this wouldn't be happening. Be careful what you wish for.

Your average TV viewer isn't listening to what the show creators or internet fans are saying about a particular show.

The show itself has to take the blame for the ratings.

Unless those people have Nielsen Boxes, whether they watch is irrelevant.

But they could have. Nielsen would send in those cards and ask what you watched. Believe me, I know. I've gotten them twice. Plus if they just happen to tell someone who didn't like the show to not watch, then ok. They did. Now this show is on the bubble. I'm sorry but the first season and the season now is like an entirely different show. They have no one else to blame but themselves.

Marvel got cocky and felt that they could transfer the Avengers bubblegum tone onto a television series. They forgot that television isn't like the movies. Luckily they didn't make the same mistake with the Netflix shows.

That tone can absolutely transfer to a TV series. It just has to be applied to interesting characters that people will care about. This is where AoS dropped the ball, imo. Phil Coulson was NEVER series lead material, and the characters they surrounded him with, barring a couple exceptions, weren't any better to me.

Well I don't disagree that the characters weren't interesting and that Coulson is not a lead character.

It wasn't so much cockiness as providing ABC with the show the Network requested.

It probably would have been cancelled last season if it wasn't for the syndication threshold.

See, I saw it as making a Whedon show without Whedon. It tried so hard to be like a Whedon show, but without him being heavily involved, it didn't work.

Unless the rest of ABC's lineup is a disaster zone. Would ABC keep AoS for another season if its ratings were still in the top third or less of their lineup?

Don't forget the Winter Soldier gut shot. I suspect the show would have worked better, and succeeded better, if its premise didn't get destroyed by movie plot turns. Not that I blame the movies, it was a good plot that made sense in context
