They should leave the casting for a 12th Doctor for a while and get Paul McGann back and do a series with the 8th Doctor....

a friend of mine who's not into Doctor Who, but is pretty much hip to it all, posed an intriguing question...

where did it ever say that the Doctor couldn't regenerate into a former incarnation?...

in other words, why couldn't Matt regenerate into Paul, thereby reassuming his 8th Doctor look, but STILL be the new 12th Doctor?... a case of a previous actor returning to the show and reassuming the role of the Doctor...

it's something I never even thought of or considered or have ever seen discussed anywhere... it WOULD be a way for McGann to return and it WOULD be a first in Doctor Who history...

There was also at least one scene where he said he could regenerate into almost anything, not just a white human male but an alien female or some other kind of gender entirely, presumably. So not out of the question he could become a woman but given the history of regenerations, not likely either (well, until the fanbase becomes more open to the idea).

Noel Clarke is directing another film

He will be directing a science fiction film called The Anomaly. The Anomaly stars Luke Hemsworth, brother of Chris and Liam, who previously appeared in the Australian soap opera Neighbours, plus Ian Somerhalder (from Vampire Diaries), Brian Cox (x2), Alexis Knapp and Clarke himself.

Quote:
Simon Lewis’ screenplay follows the travails of a traumatised ex-soldier who wakes up in the back of a van, alongside a kidnapped boy, to find that he only has only nine minutes and 37 seconds of consciousness to work out why and how he got there.

In the past it was pretty fast and loose at how much control timelord had over regeneration

Romana 1 picked her next form like clothing

The Master willed himself to be young and strong

I get the impression some people are just better at regenerating than others. Young Melody turned black after talking to a black man just before regenerating, and she was able to focus on a dress size the next time she did it. Then you've got the Master making himself younger and Romana's little montage of new faces.

The Doctor, on the other hand, only seems to be capable of making sure he's still totally human-looking and maybe changing his accent.

What would be more controversial: a black female Doctor or a male Geordie Doctor?

I'm gonna need some context here. I don't really "get" the prejudices the English have against themselves. I mean, I understand rivalries and smack-talking across different parts of a single country (I'm a rap fan from the West Coast who remembers the 90's, for god's sake), but what's the deal with Geordies?

It's not really prejudice, just that the different dialects and accents in the British Isles are so varied that it can be difficult for, say, an Englishman from Norfolk to understand an Englishman from County Durham. People joke about it, that's all.

I believe it's roughly equivalent to rednecks, New Englanders, midwesterners, Texans, Californians, etc. in the U.S. where there's an accent and slightly different culture/community to the rest. Some people stereotype them or find them weird but they don't really have a prejudice.

Re: Form/Body

Maybe Timelords can decide to either "focus" their regeneration on assuming a particular form/body or simply allow it to happen randomly?

The Tenth Doctor "focused" one of his regenerations on his hand, which resulted in the Meta-Crisis Doctor instead of the Tenth Doctor actually assuming a new form/body. And River Song directed ALL of her regenerations into the Eleventh Doctor to save his life.

It's potentially arguable that once a Timelord has been in one particular form/body, the Timelord can never again assume that form/body. Maybe each individual regeneration is a "one-off".

Re: Regenerations

IF the 13 regenerations limitation still applies, which is doubtful, will the "Twelth Doctor" potentially be the 13th regeneration?

IF the First Doctor was the original form of the Doctor (i.e. not a regenerated form) and IF the "John Hurt" Doctor is revealed to be a "missing" regeneration between the Eighth and Ninth Doctors and IF the Meta-Crisis Doctor (aka Doctor 10.5) counts as a "regneration" (which is how it appeared to be), then the Twelth Doctor would be the 13th regeneration (unless I'm miscounting).

Of course, the impact of River Song pumping the Eleventh Doctor full of all of her regenerations is unknown. At that point in time, River Song had regenerated twice on-screen which would leave her with eleven regenerations. If she transferred all of those regenerations to the Eleventh Doctor and presuming that it only required one of those regenerations to heal him, then it's possible he still has the other ten regenerations.

Of course, it's far more possible that the Doctor will simply keep regenerating as long as the TV series is on air without any explanation. Or they'll simply say that the 13 regenerations was a limitation established by the Timelords and after their destruction during the Time War, it no longer applies.

10's first regeneration doesn't count, he never went fully into it, he just used some the energy to heal himself and siphoned the rest off into his hand, his handy spare hand, remember Christmas Day, lost his hand in a sword fight? That's the hand.

I think John Hurt's Doctor won't count in the end. Clara couldn't even find him in the Doctor's timeline until she reached the bottom. Mr. Clever only found 11 faces while searching the Doctor's mind.

If he isn't the Valeyard, I think he's going to be something similar: an incarnation that doesn't officially exist.

I saw someone suggest Morrissey for the next Doctor. Not David Morrissey, the actor. The singer/songwriter.

I'll allow it. Just to see how he mistreats his companions.
