That and being called X means you need to get this and IPhone X. You’re not S-Knight, P-Knight or 4-Knight!

Microsoft working on 'Netflix for video games,' The Verge reportsMicrosoft (MSFT) gaming cloud division chief Kareem Choudhry told The Verge in an interview that the company is working on a service that would function in much the same way as a Netflix (NFLX) for video games. The service would offer users access to games from a variety of developers, including Microsoft, and stream those titles to the player's device of choice, according to Choudhry. "We're looking at ways to make that content available to anyone no matter what device they're on," he said, adding that there will eventually be "2 billion gamers in the world" and Microsoft's goal "is to reach every one of them."

More on the Netflix style thing with Game Pass:
Quote:
Every game series published by Microsoft, from "Halo" to "Forza" to "Gears of War" to "Sea of Thieves," arrives at launch in the Xbox Game Pass library. There are no exceptions — "Sea of Thieves" is the first major game to debut on the service at launch.*

Apparently MS is in discussion to reconnect the Movies & TV app to Movies Anywhere.

https://www.thurrott.com/music-video...ovies-anywhere

I hope this materializes. I used to get my movies through their app to watch on my consoles. Getting this back would allow me to consolidate all of my movies back in one place.

That would be a great development! Hope this becomes available in the UK.

Yeah, would expect it to be just base game.

a question for those of you who have multiple Xbox Ones in their home ( like for different rooms or family members ).

Can you setup a "secondary" profile for other family members on the 2nd Xbox without having to create a brand new Live/MS account?

You can set up profiles and play games and have a gaming record sure. But you won't get some of the benefits of Live like playing online and getting free games without paying for Live as far as I know.

Oh, you can do that?

See, I'm considering getting an X1S for the family living room. that way, other family members could use it just to browse and watch some free streaming apps or use it as a Blu-Ray player. They wouldn't be interested in gaming and would have no need for any of that extra stuff. As such, I'd hate to have to create a whole new MS account just for them ( and they wouldn't want that either ).

While I could just use my profile on that X1S, it is my understanding that you can't log into the same profile at the same time on multiple consoles. So, if I ever I were to get another Xbox for myself later on, we wouldn't be able to use both X1s at the same time if both had my profile logged in.

Plus, I wouldn't necessarily want them getting all my notifications, game activity updates, and all the other myriad of information the X1 bombards you with........lol.

So what you're looking to do is straightforward, no problem. I already have another account on another XBox in my bedroom which receives no notifications because it has no friends.

but for that 2nd X1 in your bedroom, you are using a DIFFERENT account with a different gamertag, email, etc. than your main X1? Yes?

you are NOT using the same account/gamertag/profile on both X1s. Correct?

Both. I don't use my gamertag on both consoles at the same time but I do use both consoles with my gamertag depending on which room I'm in. If someone comes over and wants to use other features I can login a 2nd account so they don't get all my notifications.

ah, thanks.

having to create/use a 2nd account for the other X1 is kind of the situation I'm trying to avoid.

I'll continue to look for alternatives.

thanks.

It's a quick and simple process and doesn't involve money or commitment. I thought the possibility of setting up a secondary account without Live was what you were originally asking about. You can set it up yourself and then once logged in it can stay permanently logged in (can set that up as the default account on that Xbox like I do on my 2nd Xbox - then I switch to my own profile if I want to game from that Xbox). So your family wouldn't even need to know anything about profiles. They just turn the XBox on and start doing whatever they want to do on there. It's only you that would have to remember to switch to your own gaming profile (which is a 2 second job), when you want to use X-Knight specific features.

oh, I know that. it's just that I'd still need to create a new account and new gamertag just for that 2nd account.

which, while not hard to do and free, still means another account to manage, another password to keep track of, etc.

I'm not sure, once my family members are aware of that, they'd want to go through the "hassle." They'd probably say it's not worth it and don't bother.......lol.

plus, since they have no interest in gaming, and I have no need to game in a 2nd room, that X1 would be used solely for browsing on the TV and maybe watching some streaming apps.

So, for that, would it be worth it? maybe, maybe not. I'm not sure.

I'm also looking at other devices like a Google Chromecast or Apple TV that can cast what's on a laptop onto the tv. Those might be simpler and cheaper options that wouldn't require creating a new account ( as far as I know ).

Plus, there's also the fact that navigating around the X1 UI is best with a game controller. I'm not sure if you could use a wireless mouse to navigate the X1 browser or UI. can you?

So, my other family members might not be too keen on using a game controller since that's not really their thing....y'know what I mean.

I'm just trying to find what would be most convenient for them to enjoy content on the tv in the living room while relaxing on the couch without much fuss or hassle.

but thanks for your suggestions, Iceman.

A 2nd account doesn't need to be managed. I've had a few for almost a decade and have no idea about the passwords or even the email addresses I used for them. If for some reason any details are requested I can just set up another one. There's nothing you need to do to maintain them unless you want to buy things with those accounts. Your family would not even know there are accounts involved once you set that account to automatically log in as the default profile on that Xbox.

I actually have another X1 at my friend's house. She is not a gamer at all but watches some films on it. Even she managed to set up an account on there and just uses it to watch films.

I wouldn't go and buy an X1 for this purpose though as it seems a bit of a waste to have a gaming console that never gets used for gaming, and there are likely better devices to suit your needs (you can link your pc directly to the TV too or use a smart TV). But if you already have one there is no hassle at all once you've set up an account. I guess many people wouldn't want to use a game controller. My friend is fine with it but your family might find it an inconvenience.

yeah. the good news, I managed to dig up an older MS/Xbox account I hadn't used since 2014. Looks like it doesn't have any friends list either.

so, I could always use that for the secondary Xbox and I wouldn't have to create another account.

the thing I like about the Xbox is that it still has the best TV browser experience, imo. Most other "tv" browsers I've tried ( be it Smart TV, blu-ray player, PS4, ) quite frankly suck.

but the Xbox browser was nice and easy to read. don't know if that's changed though. and I heard the next Spring Update is going to make some improvements, like the ability to save stuff to your hard drive (yay!!).

it also reminds me of another device my family and I used to use many years ago called Web TV. don't know if you've heard of it or if they had that in the UK.

but basically it was a box you could hook up to the tv to access the net and browse ( you had to pay a monthly subscription ). I believe MS actually bought out Web TV and changed it to MSN TV for a while.

That product is no longer available, but from what I've read, some of the Web/MSN TV tech made its way into the Xbox. which could explain why the 360 and X1 had comparatively good browsers.

so my family members were asking if there's anything like that old Web TV to browse on the TV, and my first response was the X1........lol.

The browser’s ok. I haven’t really tried much else. I don’t like the TV remote with smart TV. PC is fine of course if you can connect with HDMI? I don’t know about WebTV.
I don’t like having too many gadgets with specialist functions.

Guess the best thing is to see if your family are open to using a console. If so it will be straightforward and I doubt they would have a problem with it. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they weren’t too interested in the idea as it might feel like a lot to learn (even though it isn’t) for someone who hasn’t used a game controller before.

yeah. the game controller might be the issue.

and I agree about trying to navigate a TV browser using just a regular remote.....ugh.
