Seattle has been awarded by the NHL to submit an application for expansion.

No shocker there.
New Carolina owner will eventually move the 'Canes to Houston, and Arizona will relocate to Québec City.

There is no movement whatsoever with Houston...expansion or relocation & Carolina bid for relocation is off the block. So, the only viable move for Quebec is to file an application for 32nd team or woo Arizona to relocate.

Arizona will not relocate East unless a viable western team is in play ie Houston, maybe Kansas City...
And nothing will happen now.
My speculations are a few years down the road.

Quebec is being held out for the potential relocation of an Eastern Conference team (Florida, Carolina, Ottawa, etc.) There's no way they'd be an expansion team at this point with a $650 million expansion fee, which given the current exchange rate is about $800 some odd million Canadian, making it completely non-viable. They arent even going to be asked to submit an expansion application this time around.

Hmmm...again, Carolina is no longer in play for relocation.

Just because Bettmen says they're not moving doesn't mean they're not moving eventually. This is just lip service to keep the fans that are still attending games.
If anything, they're not moving NOW.

Former owner Karmanos bought the Whalers in 1994, and they moved 3 years later. Not only was attendance an issue in Hartford in the 90's, but it was also too small a market withe limited corporate sponsorship.
Attendance in Carolina during the last 4 seasons is between 11 776 and 13 286 (this season). Those low numbers keep corporate away. You think the new owner is gonna stay there after 3 more years of dismal attendance numbers when he knows he'll get 18k in Houston PLUS the corporate perks?

Ok...I didn't mean to get in a debate over this, it's not that critical, to the point of you posting a 20yr old article to support whatever point you're trying to convey about what "Is" happening in 2018 essentially.

So let me say, I'm happy for Seattle & hope to officially see them as the 32nd franchise. I honestly hope the league can remain as is with Sea as the 32nd. Quebec City had their chance like St. Louis in the NFL(twice)...I don't feel bad for the city, they have a history they can reflect on. Time for new blood to get a shot. But, realistically, Quebec still has a shot to get a franchise....the Coyotes of Arizona is prime candidate to relocate....I hope it doesn't happen personally; but, business is business. We Shall See.

No worries... I didn't mean to come across as an arse if I did...

Seattle will get that 32nd franchise tag... New/Upgraded rink, owner with deep pockets, ideal geographical location, etc... All what the NHL has been looking for, and stabilizes a two 16 team conference league.

Which is WHY I can't imagine the Coyotes moving to Quebec unless another team has relocated in the west... so unless it's a straight up Florida to Quebec move, the 'Yotes will only move to Quebec if either Florida and/or Carolina moves to Houston/Kansas....imo.

Who knows what's gonna happen? But in my mind, unless they can turn it around, it's not that far a stretch to see the 'Canes moving to Texas in 3 to 5 years.

Go Niners!!!

And this article seems to think the NHL could exist as a 34 team league adding Houston and Quebec after Seattle.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...ity/937218001/

I just dont see the league having a deep enough talent pool at this point to support that. It's bad enough we have to watch guys like Jason Chimera, Tanner Glass, and Greg KcKegg take regular shifts in the NHL now. I cant imagine what talentless goons will be inhabiting team's bottom 6 if they add another 60 some odd roster spots to the league.

God, no more expansion. Relocate if necessary, but even I have to say that Quebec City does not automatically need or deserve an NHL team.

So just over a third of the season in, this team has already surpassed your seasonal win expectation of 18-20...how do you feel now, about the team moving forward, after a couple of months in?

It was just a few years ago, there was conversations from the league & analysts/commentators on contraction of the league. This is a filler article...the author readily admitted it, so much, in the mist of that article, reference the league not really considering his assertion, given Seattle is the "Only" focus at this moment.

So yeah...it's a good read for what it worth...but there's no indication any of this has merit.

I didnt say the article had any merit from the league's standpoint, I was just pondering the point he raised.

Also I'm not sure anyone in the league was really talking about contraction. That may have been coming from the tv analysts and writers, but I can assure you it wasnt Bettman, Daly, or the BOG

TIH, I was not directing that at you...I was just making a general comment, after reading that.

The Knights finish the year with a 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs of Toronto...closing the year with the 2nd best record in the league, only behind the Lightning of Tampa Bay.

FYI In English you state the City first then the team nickname, i.e. "Montreal Canadiens" not "Canadiens of Montreal"

The Knights of Vegas look just Golden against the best team in the League, the Lightning of Tampa Bay....on the Nings home ice, as the Knights go for the season sweep. Pushing into the third, with a 3-1 lead, Vegas sports the best record in the West, 2nd overall. I really enjoy watching these guys...Vegas Strong Baby!
