It’s like a catch in the NFL.

Skills competition was fun this weekend. I still find the actual AS Game to be somewhat boring, even with the 3 on 3 format.

Really? I find it's more interesting...

Islanders to play 12 home games at Nassau next year

Yup. 12 next year, and then half the following season.

Seems part of a ploy to keep Tavares, since he apparently dislikes the commute to Barclay's.

What an incredible night...3 goals in a span of a minute, after trailing 2-1, to the Flames of Calgary. Remarkable!

....but wait, that's not all.

I am royally surprise how well this team is playing throughout the season. Whatever happen when their season comes to a close, it has been a successful year, made for the history books.

I'm still waiting for your update from the Islander game last week

My team shat the bed.
If Frolik doesn't make that bad pass, Flames win.

The Carolina Hurricanes may play games in throwback Hartford Whalers gear down the road

https://www.sbnation.com/nhl/2018/1/...nes-tom-dundon

Quote:
Tom Dundon has only been the new owner of the Carolina Hurricanes for a few weeks now, but he’s already making his presence known to fans. On Tuesday, Dundon appeared on ESPN 99.9 The Fan in Raleigh to talk shop about the team, and, in the process, gave Hurricanes fans a potential glimpse at future promotions.

According to Greg Wyshynski of ESPN, Dundon is open to using the Hartford Whalers logo and likeness to promote the team down the road. That includes merchandise and even playing games in throwback Whalers jerseys.

“I think we should have a store that sells that Whalers merchandise online and we should explore playing games in that jersey and selling that gear. It’s part of the legacy,” said Dundon. “And I just like cool stuff. If we don’t, it will mean something went wrong.”
The Whalers were an NHL club in Hartford, Connecticut from 1979 to 1997. The team is probably the most loved defunct team in league history, as their lettered logo that made a whale’s tail and their goal song — “Brass Bonanza” — remain iconic to hockey fans even today.
Big if true.

Seattle guaranteed similar draft by NHL - application to be handed in.

https://www.sonicsrising.com/seattle...ft-application

Quote:
TSN reporter Frank Seravalli has reported that the ownership group is expected to hand over their application, along with the $10-million application fee, to the league at some point in the next couple of weeks.

NHL insider and TSN reporter Pierre LeBrun also announced that the league has guaranteed the same player pool to Seattle and has stated that their access in terms of building their team will not change. Somewhat controversial for NHL fans who believe that the 2017 Expansion Draft stripped teams of key role players and gave the Vegas Golden Knights an unfair advantage.

Not surprising. With a 650 million dollar price tag, you wanna make the playoffs sooner rather than later.

It's a way to initially build a ground-roots solid fan base, obviously from the very beginning & and a lasting following, particularly from the youth, for many seasons to come.

Great, an expansion team in the Pacific Northwest that's likely going to be better than the Canucks.

If they're like the Knights, better than everyone in the west. Was at Knights/Jets game last night - Vegas is very impressive in person. Jets were the better team overall but the Knights made the Jets work hard. Very entertaining game and one of four last night to feature a botched goalie interference review. Business as usual for the NHL.

Seriously, much respect to the Knights and all, but trying to engineer a competitive new team through the expansion rules is like pro wrestling booking pretty much.

I feel like a lot of GM's overthought the expansion process and made some dumb deals to protect mediocre players and wound up giving up even better assets to do so.

Vegas getting Marchessault AND Reilly Smith from Florida is criminal. Dale Tallon should be jailed for that.

Then getting Alex Tuch off Minnesota so that they wouldnt take Matt Dumba? Really?

I'd assume (hope?) that these GM's will be a bit smarter the next go around. But then again this is the NHL and most of the GM's are dolts.

Well expect Seattle to ask for the same expansion draft format awarded to the Knights of Vegas.

Well, the Knights of Vegas only needed 28 games to match the record set by the 1979-80 Whalers of Hartford(known today as the Hurricanes of Carolina) in 40 games, for most home wins(22) by a team in its inaugural season, when they defeated the Canadiens of Montreal 6-3. Even Bugsy Siegel couldn't have pulled this off....congrats GK.
