Disagree. It's called acting for a reason. They can make JGL look taller if need be also.

I think JGL would be great as Morpheus.

I think a good director for the movie would be someone who is familiar with directing dark fantasy movies. If JGL does get the lead role, then it would be funny because this wouldn't be his first movie involving dreams.

Can we not cast Cumberbatch as every other role?

This is the role that I think he would fit good in. Last year neil Gaiman was asked who he would like to play as Morpheus and he said.
Quote:
"I would absolutely watch the HBO Sandman. On the other hand, I would happily watch Tom Hiddleston or Benedict Cumberbatch as the Dream Lord in the movie," Gaiman said. "Or somebody else, who's yet to graduate -- as long as they've got good cheekbones!"

I have never suggested Cumberbatch for anything. In fact, the only role I've ever seen him in was Khan...and I thought he was awful in that role (though I hate the fact that they even remade the Khan story, so I'm biased against it). However, I think he is the perfect Morpheus.

I think Alex Proyas would be a good choice as director. Especially if he brings the Dark City tone and feel to Sandman.

Unfortunately the days of Gilliam being allowed to direct a big studio movie are gone due to his reputation for going over budget.

He was one of the remaining contenders for the 1st Harry Potter movie (and only ended up on the shortlist because JK Rowling favoured him), took a meeting with the studio but was later told, after Chris Columbus got the job, that there was no way they were going to seriously hire him.

100% agree. I can't see anybody even coming close to doing Sandman justice.

This whole JGL directing and starring rumors has my excitement at a low right now.

I think it would be awesome if david lynch directed the movie or at least the dream sequences.

I hope there will be some casting announcements soon, maybe at comic-con.

Is there even a script yet?

It was back in February that Jack Thorne was announced as the writer. So maybe.

moviefone interview with JGL

http://news.moviefone.com/2014/08/20...tt-sin-city-2/

Quote:
Actors are often known to tap the directors they work with for information or tips. And you're about to do a big comic-book movie. Is "Sandman" still happening?

We're working towards it.

So where are you with "Sandman" right now?

Right now we're working on a script. It's me and Goyer and the screenwriter and Neil Gaiman, as well as the good folks at DC and Warner Bros. It's a really cool team of people. It's a lot of the same people who worked on the Nolan "Batman" movies. It's really exciting. There's not a script yet, we're still kind of working it out because it's such a complicated adaptation because "Sandman" wasn't written as novels. "Sin City" was written as a novel. "Sandman" is 75 episodic issues. There's a reason people have been trying and failing to adapt "Sandman" for the past 20 years.

Do you have the right take to finally make it happen?

You know, we're still in the middle of it, so I don't want to make any claims, but I think we've got the right ideas.

Have you talked about a "Sandman" universe?

It's such a huge world. We're definitely talking about in terms of a whole world.

Would you be down for tackling other aspects of this universe?

Who knows man?! I'm flattered you're asking. But I can't say anything committal.

I think for the first movie they should adapt Preludes and Nocturnes. Start off with Dream being captured, show the passage of time until his release. Then have him recover his stolen tools; his helm, his ruby and his pouch of sand. It's a great way to introduce us to Morpheus and the mythology of the Endless.

Methinks it's coming out in 2018.
