I just watched the whole of the Rogue Cut but with the commentary. I find (the cut) kind of .. a mess, actually ha.. The commentary is enlightening though. The parts that are different just seem confused, and Bryan and Ottman (his composer/editor) seem confused talking about a lot of those parts. A lot of it makes no sense to me, like Raven going back to the Mansion, what does this serve to anything except for Beast getting it on? And parts they shifted around or had to re-shoot, or put back in on the Rogue cut, that they didn't end up using in the theatrical anyway. It's all just a bit.. wah? Jarring etc.

So, I think the theatrical cut is still my preferred cut, but interesting to see all the same, and some of the extras are worth checking out I guess. I'm glad the set has the theatrical included still though.

Just bought the rogue cut. This marks the third time I've bought a blu-ray from Fox only to have to spend several minutes trying to scratch the sticker residue off of the slipcover. I've never had this problem with any other blu-ray save for the ones from 20th Century Fox. I looked it up and apparently I'm not the only one.
Edit: watching the rogue cut now. Is the scene with Xavier finding the remaining mutants with cerebro, and then flying the ship in the original cut? I didn't remember that but I thought that was a really cool scene. The ship has never looked better.

Usually happens with any blu-ray I get at Best Buy. Just use a hair dryer. It warms up the glue and you can usually peel it off.

Interesting. I buy most of my blu rays from Hastings and Walmart.
But thank you for the tip. I'm assuming all that must be done before you peel off the sticker? I already removed it as carefully as I could but there's still a lot left.

Yeah, just blow-dry the sticker for a few minutes and it should loosen up to peel off. If there's glue left, there's a solution called Goo Gone that usually works, although you have to be careful not to mess up the cover with that.

Raven wasn't there for Beast. That thing just happened, but eventually she did what she was there for (should I avoid spoilers?), and in the end of the movie, when they look at each other, that final moment now has a little more punch and meaning because of their little scene in the mansion.

If Rogue was being experimented on (for quite some time I assume) then she was in tip-top shape and looked great. It was just weird to me that the scene felt like Bobby/Magneto showed up right at the moment they were going to start working on her.

Other than that I enjoyed it for the most part and the extra lines throughout the movie and whatnot. The editing during breaking out Rogue felt odd though, it was jumping between past and future I believe very quickly, and with one side (past) not as thrilling/exciting as what was going on in the future. I know it was supposed to mirror Mageneto breaking into a place to get his helmet but he just needed to take out 3 guards in a museum compared to the huge threat in the future with the sentinels.

Living in Belgium, I was quite surprised to receive my copy of the Rogue cut yesterday.

My thoughts:

- I like the picture wall of lost friends/mutants in Moscow and in the temple. It's a sad shot and a nice reference to the iconic comicbook cover. Having Warpath light a candle and say a prayer(?) gave him a little bit extra.
- Those extra few lines for Storm, Bishop, Blink and Sunspot were welcome.
- It's a shame old Magneto didn't kill those scientists in Cerebro. It didn't really make sense letting them get away and probably activating the Sentinels. They must have been the worst kind of human beings left behind.
- I think Raven wanted to sneak into the mansion to destroy Cerebro and didn't expect to find Beast awake. After the airport she must have known Charles would try again reaching her through Cerebro. The scene gave Beast some development which I thought was lacking in the theatrical cut.
- I wish we also got some interaction between Wolverine and Mystique.
- Beautiful juxtaposition: the destroyed hallways in the future and Mystique posing as Charles (which was also a nice reference to X1).
- I loved Prof X's reaction to Bobby's death and the look on his face watching his mansion.
- There should have been a bit more substantial dialogue between Prof X and Rogue. "Professor..." and "Bobby..." was not enough.
- Rogue entering the temple and taking Kitty's powers was quite moving and well-acted with a beautiful score. It was her moment to use her powers pro-actively.
- While Kitty rescuing Magneto was a bit weird, I'm glad they gave her something to do after Rogue took over.
- I liked that they kept Kitty as a final close-up before the Sentinels attack them inside the temple.

Is it better than the theatrical? Hard to say, I haven't made my mind up.

I prefer the slipcover design of the theatrical cut (TC) so bought that off eBay for £3 ages ago while I was waiting for the Rogue Cut (RC) to be released.

I've waited so long to own DOFP, I held out all this time when the RC was announced. After a year, I get 2 films for the price of 1 - win-win.

If you're a sucker for bonus features, like me, you'll be disappointed to find that all the extras from the TC blu-ray release don't make it over to the RC. First thing I did was check the extras from the TC slipcover against what was on the RC extras disc.

In regards to the film itself, the RC is the one they should have gone for from the beginning! That said, I still love the TC. The RC DOES improve the film, at least it does to me. Best X-Men film by a country mile!

Yeah I get she was there for another reason, but the whole episode with Beast was silly for me. And really, the theatrical cut served to highlight that not having any of that stuff (including what you're referring to) didn't detract from the plot. She just didn't need to go back there..

Beast in a real world would have warned Xavier and company of her prescence before she had a chance to do anything else. Bryan addresses this whole thing in the commentary, and even he seems to sound embarrassed talking about some of that. He basically thought of the scene one evening, thinking it was the best thing ever and then Ottman cut it in the edit for being unnecessary, and Bryan concurred. the only upshot of her Beast fling was a gratuitous shot of Raven's backside with beast grabbing it... but really. Beast porn?

I thought it was great fun and wonderful for fans to have something more but I can see why singer cut it because it did slow the movie down a little.

Loved the extra lines for the future xmen though

So from the storyboard of the climax, it seems like the Sentinels actually absorbed mutants into their bodies at one point. The way they used mutant abilities was different too.

Also there were more mutants present: Psylocke, Avalanche, Jubilee, Mercury. And then Sunfire instead of Sunspot and Rockslide instead of Colossus it seemed.

Even as a continuation to X3 its pretty lost with the lack of continuity

The theatrical cut probably works better for the rogue and iceman relationship
I agree with this.

So many little important things, and many of them were added almost when it was too late.

Hats off to you, John!

Not looking forward to the Singer/Kinberg commentary. I'll probably watch that next week.

I suspect they didn't shoot a reaction shot from Rogue so they ended up using the one they have of Kitty from the theatrical release.

I wish they went with Sunfire.... Mercury and Avalanche would have been cool too!

Jubilee got fried by a facebeam, Warpath gets ripped in half at the torso. When the Sentinels break into the room, Kitty picks up the sword Psylocke drops and rushes against a Sentinel only to get absorbed into it.

The one thing I liked about the storyboard was Xavier sliding off his chair so Magneto can use it to seal the door and it forms an X. He also uses his own helmet too. That was pretty cool to see, two iconic symbols used together to fight the enemy.

My only complain is the storyboard quality, it was pretty ****. They were literally doodles/lines. Very, very half-assed, can't believe it's professional work and they used them on the DVD.

I watched/listened that one too. I was waiting for some kind of "soon I'll learn how Kinberg sucks and how DOFP was good despite of him" revelation, but he actually had some decent points almost all the time. Got more confident about him. It's still better if others handle the main story and he does the screenplay, but I'm not worried about Kinberg anymore. If he ever gets to do the story and screenplay all by himself, without even the director challenging him, then I'll become worried.

I have mixed feelings on the RC, not sure whether I prefer it to the TC yet so glad both are on the disc.

Some additions were fine but overall the movie seemed to be bogged down a little compared to the TC which has great pacing and just breezes by. I was tired when I watched the RC though so will need to give it another chance before making my mind up.

I do feel the RC felt more like a sequel to FC though with the coin being in the vault and the scene between Raven and Beast at the mansion.

In a shocking twist, Singer was right to cut what he did *rolls eyes*

I've watched the Rogue Cut and enjoyed it immensely. Some great new lines and character moments, particularly in the first act. None of the extra content was bad but it did harm the pacing later on. Rogue's rescue was fun from a fan perspective but added nothing to the story. It's probably the weakest additional content despite being a selling point. The Ice-Man/Kitty/Rogue dynamic it introduces is really off-putting too.

Still really happy to get the Blu, can't wait to watch some extras.
