Superman and Spider-Man crossover comics.

Anyone read these 2 classic crossover stories? i had since i bought the DC and Marvel crossover classics trade-paperback as a kid in the early 90s and thought it was the coolest things i've ever read in comics of seeing some beloved childhood superheroes of mine all in one collection.

The first one was the first ever crossover in comic book history after Marvel and DC did the first co-published comic in history known as "MGM's Marvelous Wizard of Oz" in 1975 then in 1976 comic fans got the first crossover between 2 different companies and made history. The sequel i thought rivaled the first gem and had great storytelling with fab art.

I own them both. The second is much better than the first.

The Spider-Man/Batman crossovers done in the 90s were even better, and again I felt the second was better than the first. (Though seeing Mark Bagley's take on Batman in the first crossover was a real treat.)

Unfortunately I don't own any of the Spider-Man/Superman/Batman crossovers or any of the other Spidey/cross company crossovers. I'd really like to, though. All I've been able to read of them is what excerpts are online and they are pretty darn great.

I bought the first Superman and Spider-Man crossover back in 1976, and I was turning 9 years old and it blew my freaking mind... I got the second one in 1981 when it came out and I didn't think it was as enjoyable as the first one... though my 14 year old mind was a little more jaded than when I was younger... lol

Avoid the Spider-Man/Backlash crossover, the artwork is terrible there when it comes to faces, real horrible and bitter to watch

Superman crossover one is decent, nothing particularly amazing, just a generic guy trying to destroy the world, and to be honest I don't like it as Earth 1 Lex, would believe it if it was Earth 2 Lex, cause Earth 1 Lex wants to rule, Earth 2 Lex carves to destroy, and this crossover was with Earth 1 Superman
Ock is the one who eventually stops the plan and saves the day, though by influence from Spider-Man

Didn't read the entirety of the second crossover, it behaves from what I read as if they never met before though, it belongs on a different plane of existence compared to the first

Ah, the first Spidey/Superman crossover comic. I recall seeing it advertised in my monthly Spidey comics. And I remember begging for my parents to mail away for it for me. Can't recall right now how much it was, but just remember waiting what seemed like forever for it to finally arrived. I read that book over and over. I had to have been 10 or 11 back then, and this was the greatest comic book ever. I don't have my original copy, but I have picked it up again for my Spidey collection room, many years ago.
Ah, growing up in the late 60s and thru the 70s was great times. Glad to have been born when I was.

I remember picking up the first Spidey/Supes crosseover Treasury-sized book from the newstand rack that was covered with a plastic tarp in a downpouring thunderstorm and trying to figure out how the hell was I gonna keep it dry and undamaged on the way home

I wasn't gonna wait to come back on another day, I wanted it NOW!...

and it cost me buying four thick newspapers and I tucked the book in deep enough where it stayed safe from the rain... the book laying in between two large newspapers and two more stretched across the top of the book and carrying the whole thing at my side like I was carrying schoolbooks... and voila, dry and unbent or undamaged...

and you know what's really weird?... I STILL have that very same book off that rack all these years later...

I never forgot all the crap I had to go thru to get that book home safely...

It was funny when Spider-Man was awed at Wonder-Woman in the sequel as he said "She makes Bo Derek look like a 2" as i got the joke at the time in the early 90s when i was 10 when i bought it as i am familar with Bo Derk.

I read the first one a long time go but not the second.

I'm not too big on company crossover books. It's rare that one of them interest me. I've never read JLA/Avengers and heard negative things about it. Now if a significant character swaps universes for a year....now you're talking.

REALLY?!... I hate company crossovers as well, but personally I thought it was a great bit of crossover with a dynamic story enhanced by that gorgeous George Perez art...

never judge a book (or in THIS case, 4 books) by the way others view the cover...

you really SHOULD check it out for yourself, rb...

Yeah, if you only read the first Supes/Spidey you're doing yourself a disservice. The first one has a really basic plot and isn't very interesting. It's even kind of cheesy in parts. The second one is much better. Doctor Doom has a well thought-out plan that only gets undermined in a way you might not anticipate (Doom didn't, either).

The first one is full of 70's cheese... but when you read it in 1976 at the tender age of 8 1/2, it's all so very AWESOME!!!!

It's BY FAR the best Marvel/DC crossover story... better than the second one, better than the Batman/Hulk one, and better than both Spider-Man/Batman ones...

I think they're all pretty decent considering the time frames involved... lots of cheeeeeeeeeese back then in super-hero books... in my opinion, it's not as good as the first one, but I was 8 when I read the first one and 13 when I read the second... so I was a tad more jaded...

I was 11 and a Spider-Man fan at the time it came out, so yeah, I got it!

Loved those Treasury Editions! Loved Andru's art (of course). It was fun seeing continuities cross, like seeing MJ being a bit jealous of Lois!
