Renegade run or no, how could anyone shoot Mordin?

Well you could always have Mordin die in ME2, so you don't have to do it yourself.

I bought this for the Wii U tonight at Gamestop. I had about $80 in credit to blow, so I went ahead and picked it up and I'm am impressed. It's my first Mass Effect game, so the story is a little hazy, but I'm picking up bits and pieces. The Gamepad adds quite a bit to the gameplay IMO and being able to play it exclusively on the gamepad without a TV is really cool too. I can watch TV while playing Mass Effect. That's ****ing cool!

Oooh, not sure if that's the best idea. You won't feel as attached to the story or characters if you haven't known them for two whole games. I hope you have a fun time though.

Oh, not sure what you had in yours but in mine Mordin dies without me killing him & it's a great death scene.

How does it look?

And how does it look/play on the controller? I really can't picture that lol but want to see how it looks. Would be good to play in bed if you can't sleep.

Also as Spider-Vader said, this is a rare game where it really is a continuous story so starting at ME3 is like starting a book/film in its 3rd Act and when people die you won't really care as much as you should.

I could give a rat's ass about a video games story. Seriously. If I want to get all caught up in a story, I'll read a book or watch a movie. As cool as the gameplay is in Mass Effect for the Wii U, the hour and a half of cut scenes in the beginning are a bit over-kill. I've read up on the story of Mass Effect and the Wii U version has a comic book that opens the game and tells you the backstory. It also lets you make decisions like those made in Mass Effect 1&2. Basically, I had $80 in store credit at Gamestop so I went online and looked for the best reviewed game on the Wii U. Mass Effect was at the top of the list so I bought it.

Anyway, the gamepad functionality is really cool and it looks and plays great on the gamepad's OffTv mode. It's a fun game and I am enjoying it. I just don't give a damn about the story.

I'm sorry but this annoys the heck out of me and sounds really ignorant. A good video game story can be just as thrilling as a good book or movie. They're all part of the entertainment industry.

That's true, a game can have a great story and I've played games with decent stories. Red Dead Redemption, IMO, has the best story in any game I've played. I'm just at a point right now where I want to have fun when I play a game and sitting through an hour of cut scenes when a game starts is just not my cup of tea.

You know... something I've learned about myself kind of recently is that I don't really care about story in games either. I used to. Or at least I used to think I did.

I like characters, I like worlds, I like lore, but the actual A to B to C plot in a game I just don't care that much about.

But isnt that what Mass Effect does the best? Its those character interactions. The relationships you build over the first second and into the 3rd game and the lore surrounding the 3 games.

Again, that's true, but knowing that I couldn't play Mass Effect 1&2 on Wii U, I'm just interested in what the gameplay has to offer. If I get something from the story, groovy, if not I can dig it just the same.

I dont know how you are finding much joy in that game. Without the story and characters that game is a pretty generic third person shooter. Wouldnt you be better off playing Call of Duty or some other mindless shoot em up?

If I didn't already have those games on Xbox, probably. I got the game for basically free and it got good reviews. If the Wii U had better games, I'd be playing them.

I take back a little of what I said about the ending. Having just finished my second run through, with the added DLC ending, it wasn't all so bad. This time around I only got the one choice (to take control of the Reapers) and I gotta say that with the epilogue it was pretty satisfying.

Definitely without those things it becomes very difficult for a story to connect except on the driest most intellectual levels. But you still need a decent story to at least string all of those elements together otherwise you just end up with a bunch of interesting tidbits, its how characters engage with their world and we see that dynamism in action.

All that is not to say I don't agree with you. When you get down to it the majority of video game (and really in general this crosses into other mediums) plots are all the same, its only a few that manage to really wow so its the stuff you mentioned that really differentiates these various game worlds we choose to explore, but a great story can really bring all of those elements to life in a way that maybe just an adequate one cannot.

Case in point I've seen story elevate plenty of things that would have been just good into being great: Bastion comes to mind, but heck Deadly Premonition ended up being way more impressive because of the way its plot ended up coming together.

Just hearing what Bungie's Destiny will be like, does anyone wish Bioware would make the same with the Mass Effect universe?

Yes, absolutely. That would be very very cool. I'm already super intrigued by what Bungie is doing, put that in a rich setting that I am familiar with?

The storytelling in Mass Effect games is good, but the actual plots are not.

Regarding story, it's pretty much essential for me to be interested in a games story. Regardless of how much fun the game play is I will literally not bother finishing a game if the story can't keep me engaged. Assassin's Creed (1&2) is a good example, fun game play but I didn't care what was going on and probably didn't even get 2/3 of the way through on either game.

Gambling and furniture shopping doesn't seem like the best way for Shepard to spend his time when he's supposed to be out forging alliances to strike back at the Reapers who are busy destroying Earth.
