On the shockwaves podcast the director was talking about casting them. Both of them had been recommended to him separately. He said "I really hope they get along and have the kind of chemistry we need." to which someone pointed out "They probably know each other." The two actresses had attended comicon together and were already good friends. During the making of tragedy girls they shared an apartment.

Just finished watching Victor Crowley, thought it was a ton of fun just like the Hatchet trilogy. I actually liked that it wasn’t tied to the Marybeth storyline anymore and you could see Adam Green made some definite tonal choices, including the music to give the film a slightly different feel. On the negative side this definitely felt like the cheapest of the series, which was mostly noticeable in the gore FX and Crowley’s make up (at least when it was brightly lit). Some of the actors weren’t up to scratch (not that this series is known for its great performances) but I absolutely loved Dillon, he was hilarious. The film had some great kills too, one particular kill involving a mobile phone been the stand out.

All in all I think this is a worthy edition to the Hatchet series. I think Green may be done with Hatchet and Victor Crowley (at least where the movies are concerned) but I’d love another one.

My new rankings for the series;

1) Hatchet III (4.5/5)
2) Hatchet (4/5)
3) Victor Crowley (3.5/5)
4) Hatchet II (3/5)

Note: for those who haven’t seen it, there’s a mid credits scene.

With Annihilation and The Ritual, we've been getting fantastic creature designs this year.

I watched Victor Crowley at the weekend and yeah it's definitely cheap lol.

Still had some entertaining moments. I gave it a 6.5/10.

The creature design in Annihilation really bothered me (I mean that in a complimentary way). The lighthouse scene got under my skin.

Definitely check out The Ritual. It's a shame it didn't get a theatrical release.

The first conjuring was above average. The second was really damn good. Great ending.

Question though. So there's a nun movie coming out? Wasn't she pretty much the villain in conjuring 2?

Conjuring 2 had one of my favorite scenes for a horror film. The guitar scene with the kids. It’s such a feeling of humanity in a movie that you don’t often get in horror these days.

That scene was nice. My favorite was the shadow to the painting.

Wow I feel the opposite. The first Conjuring was genuinely scary whereas Conjuring 2 was dreadful and not scary at all. The worst bit was that Crooked Man, am I supposed to take that seriously? Honestly Conjuring > Conjuring 2 any day of the week.

Infact Sky Living did the Enfield Haunting a few years back and it was much better than that Hollywood garbage.

I felt the same way about a year ago. I thought conjuring 2 was so bad I couldn't finish it and didn't until yesterday. Yesterday I really enjoyed it though. I saw the Annabelle series and conjuring 1 recently that made me revisit.

Unpopular opinion. I love most of wans horror films. I even really enjoy dead silence. Thought that was a lot of fun, but insidious is so bad to me. I laughed through out the first one and made it 30 minutes into the second. Now those films are dreadful.

BBC did it better with Ghostwatch!

Pass on strangers: prey at night. I guess watch one day on tv with nothing to do, but definitely don't spend your hard earned cash on it like me.

Insidious isn’t scary at all I agree. Did you laugh at the Demon hooves like I did?

My issues with Insiduous are its a poor mans Poltergeist. It’s not even as scary as Poltergeist and tbh I don’t even think Poltergeist is scary either but it’s a good movie.

I've never watched a movie in subtitles. Serious question. Why would I? Does it further the horror or mystery by reading it? Might as read a book. Not being rude. Seriously curious.

Because dubbing sacrifices the actor's performance heavily. Subtitles preserve their audio, so you get the actual actor's reaction, not some American or someone who speaks English trying to replicate or imitate it.
