She has hearing aids on in the trailer.

Looks like Creed drops Stuntman, wins the title, feels himself too much, fights Drago (maybe as a heavyweight) against Rocky's advice, Rocky quits, Creed uses Lil Duke as his trainer, gets wrecked, Rocky returns. Probably a predictable story but that doesn't mean it won't be good.

Predictable doesn't automatically have to mean bad, yeah.

Footage looked good but that was a poorly constructed trailer.

The premise is a little lame to me. Like some perceived notion that Apollo Creed's son beating Ivan Drago's son somehow redeems the death of his father in the ring or vanquishes some sort of inner demon. I'm sorry but it's nonsense.

Honestly, the trailer did nothing for me at all. Didn't feel epic or engaging. It felt, by the number's. Been there, done that kind of stuff. Like the Rocky version of JP: Fallen Kingdom.

To be fair a major part of the Adonis Creed character is his daddy issues and Apollo's legacy.

Adonis wanting to beat a Drago would mean mean something to the character given what we know of him.

We don't know how Dolph's Ivan plays a part in the story either yet.

The story could be corny. It all depends on the execution.

But that's the thing, he's making it about his father's death but his step-mom calls him out on in it in the trailer that this is not about his father. Most likely his own ego.

The first movie was about Adonis trying to be his own man and move out from his father's shadow.

I think this will be about similar in themes about accepting the past and that beating the son of the man who killed your father won't change that.

As you said, it's about execution. I'm a little worried that Coogler not only isn't directing but also didn't write the script. Stallone wrote it and while he did a great job with the first Rocky as well as Rocky Balboa, his track record is still spotty.

I'm still not keen on this plot. Going by the trailer, it's totally lazy. Have Apollo fight Rocky Balboa's son in a street fight in the next movie.

If you had asked me, "what's one of the worst things they could do in the Creed franchise?" I'm pretty sure that I would have proposed this exact scenario....

Introducing a young Drago is one of the most dumb and lazy choices they could have gone with. One of the most predictable too... it was the devil in the box.

What a disappointment.

The sons inherit the sins of the fathers. Guess I'm the only one who likes that plot idea.

It all depends on how they execute it, so saying the movie's gonna suck solely because of the plot is a perplexing notion.

It just doesn't bode well is all.

You mention the son inheriting the sins of the father... which is a decent route to take with Creed. Apollo died because he rushed into a fight to justify his own ego. Adonis has a similar "gotta prove myself" thing going on, so that plot line makes sense. Will Adonis repeat his father's mistakes or move beyond them?

The thing is though.... there's a million ways you can get there without forcing a blood relative into the story. In fact, Drago's son making an appearance only hurts that cause by drawing all the attention to the past, and away from the moment we're in with Adonis. Adding a Drago is lazy in that way. Instead of developing an opponent that has his own motivations, they throw a nostalgia grenade in middle and hope that the audience will connect.

Maybe it won't play out that way. The trailer just gave me that feeling.

I dig the plot, even if it is predictable. Why wouldn’t Drago’s son want to fight a Creed? If he’s a fighter like his father it only makes sense. Adonis is the son of the man his father killed and is training under the man who beat his dad. I’m sure there’s some personal stakes for him as well.

It makes this fight more personal for Creed. There hasn’t been a memorable opponent since Drago really.

I honestly can't remember the names of any of the antagonists post Rocky IV off the top of my head. VI and Creed are probably in my top 3 of the franchise alongside the first film, but it definitely wasn't because of the opponents in the films. Could be nice to have a return to the more theatrical and personal opponents. I do understand the concerns, this could be really hokey if they handle it poorly, but I also think there's a lot of potential in it, I'm very interested to see how Ivan Drago and his son are portrayed in this film.

How is it personal? Drago Jr. had nothing to do with it. Also, it wasn't like Drago murdered his father. Drago didn't want to "kill" Apollo.

Guys. You're acting like every Rocky movie ever hasn't been "predictable".

It's...pretty funny.

They're all straight-forward, feel-good, over-the-top "lazy" (your word) affairs. That's not a bad thing.

Of course Drago's kid makes sense here. Adonis is the brash type of guy who's not going to care that Drago's kid had nothing to do with it personally, it's more a "name" thing, for glory and reputation and all.

We don't know how Drago himself fits into this, whether he's repentant or whatever, but especially if he's not there's going to be plenty of logical room here for Adonis to see this as personal, even if only to get at Ivan by pummeling the **** out of his son.

That's really not any more simple or obvious or uninspired than the broad concepts of any other Rocky flick.

Creed still has anger over his father’s death. The first movie was about him accepting that he wasn’t just an accident, and deserved to have the the Creed name.

But he still hasn’t properly processed how his father died. No Drago didn’t go in with intention to kill Apollo but he didn’t care either. “If he dies, he dies”. This carelessness still resonates with Adonis. While I’m sure Creed would love to get into the ring with Ivan, that’s obviously not possible. So fighting his son embodies the opportunity to avenge his father’s death, which he thinks will provide him closure. But most likely the movie will be about him learning his father made his own choice and Adonis should accept that.
