I wonder if they'll off an avenger in infinity war.

And not a non-entity like Hawkeye, war machine, falcon, or buck..

That's like saying TDK was completely unremarkable outside of the Joker. You can't separate Dark Knight from the Joker. Just like you can't separate BP from its politics.

Wow I'm sorry that some of the regulars did not enjoy BP and the other MCU films from last year. I feel like Marvel has been on fire with it's last couple of movies (Vol. 2, Homecoming, Ragnarok and now Black Panther) and we are getting an awesome looking Infinity War film very soon.

I do think Ant-Man and the Wasp looks bland though.

Phase 3 has been consistently good IMO.

I'm not sure they'll kill anyone big in Infinity War, but I think that'll almost certainly happen in Avengers 4.

Black voter registration effort launched at Black Panther screenings. Just letting yourself be more aware of its value.

I have no plans to see it, as I am not convinced it isn't just another Marvel movie. That said, I do fully understand its importance, and I hope it does well.

That's just using pop culture to promote something of actual importance. Don't make the mistake of confusing popularity with importance.

There's nothing wrong in breaking one thing out in the sense of saying that you think the movie only succeeded really well with one thing.

Same. Marvel’s last three movies have legitimately been some of their best.

Once again we are getting Marvel movies that show that the last phase really wasn't that great.

While I will say that the phases are getting better as they go, The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy elevated Phase 2 to greatness. It just started off shaky with IM3 and TDW.

It has some political commentary like every other Marvel movie (exceptions being Spider-Man and Ant-Man), without getting heavy handed at that.

I am going to say that the exceptions to political commentary list is much, much larger than those two movies.

I'm a scientist and I disagree with your dismissal of art. Art, imo, is extremely important. It is an expression of who we are, but then the message helps redefine who we are after that (like a chicken and egg process). We're affected by the art we consume and that has repercussions.

As an example, it was the movie Rain Man that made autism / Asperger's syndrome something that most people understood and recognized, as opposed to a situation where those people would just be dismissed. Another example is that a huge fraction of our lingo and sayings come from Shakespeare. A third example, the smartest woman I know decided to become a mathematician after watching Jurassic Park. I could go on.

ETA: The movie Sideways apparently had a detrimental effect on total sales of Merlot wine :-) That's actually bad news as most people cannot tell the ****ing difference and this harmed some wineries, but it's a convincing example of how art can change people.

I have enjoyed each phase a lot. But I think it is only recently, outside of a few exception, that we are finally getting to potentially great movie territory.

Can someone explain to me the logic behind Sony's restrictions on Marvel Studio's usage of Spider-man? I noticed that Spidey was omitted from the MS logo intro in Black Panther and I think he was omitted in Ragnarok too. What's up with that? You'd think Sony would want the free advertising for their character. It was especially strange when Spidey was nowhere to be found on any of the blu ray covers and promo material for Civil War. The guy, along with BP got SERIOUS buzz after CW and yet they couldnt show his face on their products because....why? How does that hurt Sony in any way?

Black Panther is amazingly good. It really does leave you thinking the way no other Marvel film has done so far. If you like the Marvel films but are worried they can't do a "heavier" property like the X-Men, this movie absolutely proves they can.

And oh man, MBJ as Killmonger is fantastic. I haven't felt this sympathetic for a villain since Magneto. Up there with Loki if you ask me, if not better.

I think Steve Rogers or Tony Stark will die, possibly both. They've been the two biggest pillars of the Avengers since the beginning (especially Stark), so if the film is to be a big dramatic game changer it would only make sense. They've both had pretty full character arcs by this point, and the actors have been talking about stepping away for a while.

And to be honest, you don't have to do it the Marvel way. Instead of building up to JL the way Marvel built to Avengers, they could have simply made a JL film where we accept that the Justice League already exists and is known, and then some solos after that. Granted, this would have worked best if you did it before MOS, but still, that's a viable option.

Instead they tried doing an abridged build up and the films suffered because of it.
What are you guys on? It's too similar of a playbook to not be seen as "copying". Heck, we're even talking about practically the same "phase one" duration in real-time (IM->Avengers / MoS->Justice League). As long as the trinity is established and half the movies aren't set in-universe for w/e reason within the span of a week, it's fair play.

I think Black Panther will give you more of that feeling. It has some of the same copy-paste components those other movies had.
