Probably. I know that I've never done evening or midnight movies due to football games, TV shows, and not wanting to fall asleep in the middle of a movie after a long day.

This reminds me of when I took my family to see Pacific Rim. My mother fell asleep during the trailers. Then Pacific Rim, the loudest film I have seen in a theater since Terminator 3, woke her up.

I have an uncle that I've been to several movies with and in about 75% of them he dozes off for a bit. Even does it when watching movies at my house as well so it's not just theater seating and dark lighting doing it.

That makes sense. I'd like to add that my mother has fallen asleep in plenty of movies. I've fought sleep before as well.

I fell asleep in Captain America.

ETA: I voted 550 million. This is an awful film, but it is riding on the marvel wave and there's very little competition.

Take this as you will because it's still super early but on Twitter Gitesh Pandya of box office guru is saying that his sources are saying the movie is headed for a 28-30mil Friday and a mid 70's weekend. Again it's still early so it could still do better than these numbers but that is around where it looks like The Dark World is headed for now.

Yeah, I saw that.
I always check Gitesh.
But aside from Box Office.Coms 88+ prediction,
Variety thinks it could be 83 million,
So we will see.
But, ALL of the predictions are saying it is making more than Thor did in its opening weekend.
Keep that in mind .

A poster at hsx.com also says TDW might be looking at high 70s - low 80s this weekend.

I have fallen asleep twice in the movie theater. Once during "Kingdom of Heaven", which I missed about 10 mins of and the other was, believe it or not, "The Empire Strikes Back" during its re-release. I was like 10 and had stood up the entire night before in anticipation. I only missed a few moments with Han and Leia so I was good. I also saw it twice more during the run.

This is performing on pace with what skyfall did last year. I don't see it as a big deal. If it has decent legs, it could certainly still make 300, although when CF comes out there will be a lot of competition.

Skyfall was pretty beloved. It had legs because everyone seemed to like it, from critics to the audience.

That's a cute story about Empire Strikes Back Darth. Honestly I don't even remember what I was doing in 1997, my childhood was forgettable to say the least.

As for the box office Variety always seems to over predict the early numbers but if it does 83mil my prediction will be dead on. So go Variety! I'm sorry but I like being right.

If The Dark World makes 300mil off of an 80ish mil weekend, okay reviews and Catching Fire coming out in just two weeks, I'll eat my hat.

If the first Thor couldn't manage a 3x multiplier, I can't see how this one does it to reach $300M.

If the number is 80, no that won't happen, but I never trust Nikki's numbers, she has a bad habit of under predicting based on early receipts. BO.com is at 88+, and RTH hasn't chimed in yet.

I'm not going off of Finke's numbers, if anything she over estimates blockbusters when she gets her early numbers in. I still don't think it's going to hit 300mil even if it does 88mil over the weekend. I've thought that all along and see no reason to change my thinking. At best this movie has a 2.9 multiple and that ain't enough to get it to 300mil. It would need nearly a 3.5 multiplier to hit 300mil off of an 88mil opening.

It would need around $120M for the weekend to have a shot at $300M domestic, IMO.

It may not, but I don't find the numbers that disappointing. I'm sure it is to the people who were predicting 120M, but that was never going to happen, and certainly not for first weekend in November.

Maybe for this genre, but it certainly can be done. Skyfall had a 50% +drop in week2, but had a great Thanksgiving run. Skyfall did OK domestically it was overseas where it mopped the floor with the competition.

Agreed.

@Tony Stark I don't find the numbers disappointing either. It was never going to do Iron Man numbers. The people who thought so wanted to be disappointed. SkyFall did 300mil domestically which is unheard of for a modern Bond film. Sure it did way better overseas but it did phenomenal business in North America.

Bond had things going for it that Thor doesn't. Bond had the anniversary, Bond had better trailers and better marketing and Bond had way better reviews.

Yes it can be but as of now there's nothing to suggest this movie will have that type of run.

And that is why we all love you.

My childhood wasn't the most exciting, but it was moments like that I will never forget.

Skyfall did fantastic. it did $300m domestically without 3D. It was still making cash in a cluttered Dec.

I am still a little surprised about the international numbers, but far from a disappointment.

Yeah it's called Thanksgiving. The big key is what the 2nd weekend drop is, if it's over 60% then, no it's not going to do that. However Other than Catching Fire and Frozen, the November roster is totally unimpressive. Thor will be at least no.3 through the end of the month.
