My first thought was that it sounded like a predecessor to Marvel's Ultimate line. New universe, cleaner canon. Supposed more "realistic" setting.

Yeah, I guess you could look at it that way too.

Didn't they do a New Universe relaunch not too long ago. I think it was called newuniversal.

Warren Ellis has to be one of the most hit or miss writers in the world. He can be brilliant one moment, then utter trash the next.

I don't know. Most of the stuff I"ve read from him has been great. But then I never bothered to read Universal, or his Thor run. All I got is Transmet, and Planetary. So I guess I see him through awesome glasses.

That Thor run was some legendary terribleness.

His Astonishing run was an utter waste, and a lot of people hated Nextwave (I liked it, personally. )

Didn't read his Astonishing run cuz, you know, the X-Men suck, and I liked Nextwave until they put it in continuity.

I think I've very thoroughly given up on continuity.

It was brilliant you just hate Bendis because it is the "in" thing.

Hickman posted this on his twitter last night, and I thought it was pretty interesting:

So the page in the middle is missing six insignia's, meaning we still have six up coming members, none of which are Manifold, new Smasher, Sunspot, Cannonball, Shang-Chi, Captain Universe, Hyperion so I wonder who else Hickman plans on bringing in?

Also with a team with this many high powered members, I hope we get some equally awesome villains. I'd like to see some new ones be created, which I think Hickman is doing as we see Ex Nihilo on the first image, but also to maybe revamp some older Avengers villains that haven't been seen or used in a long time. Graviton I could see as being a great villain under Hickman.

Not at all.

Bendis' Ultimate Spider-Man = great.

Bendis' Avengers = crap on a cracker.

I'm hit and miss on that.

I didn't care for his X-Force but he did manage to make me love Bedlam and Wisdom. The rest was pretty much crap though.

X-Man ticked me off the most initially because he completey changed the character. I grew to really like the story being told, but to this day I liked Nate better pre-Shaman. But at least the story was good.

With Generation X it was already in a pretty bad place. I HATED that he killed off Synch but beyond that I thought the run post-Counter X was actually pretty good. But he killed Synch... and I will never forgive him.

I rather like the colours and lighting on the Hastings one. It reminds me of an ad from the 90s, but in a good way. Also agreed on Hawkeye, I miss his old look, his movie look is fine for the films, but it's underwhelming in the books.

Ellis is brilliant when it comes to his own creations... but when he works other people's stuff.... well... it kind of blows...

^ His work on Thunderbolts was good.

Is Fury Jr appearing regularly in any Marvel Now! books? I'm kind of wondering what his role in the MU is supposed to be, besides an eventual replacement for the original.

I did like his Thunderbolts.

And Fury Jr... I believe... is going to be in Secret Avengers regularly (along with Coulsen).
