McNiven
Deodato
Dodson
Maleev apparently
Finch,
the little bit of stuff from Tan with Spidey I've liked
The bit of spidey stuff I've seen from Coipel I've liked.

That's it for now off top of my head, I'll try to remember to add more later.

I liked Larsen and McFarlane at the time, though not so fond looking back on it now.

And how can you not love JRJR? He's like, the almost quintesential Amazing Spider-Man artist. I'm feeling lazy, or I'd post visual examples:

JRJR
Todd McFarlane
Erik Larson
Marcos Martin
Mark Bagley
Romita Senior
Ditko
Frank Cho
Andrea DiVito
Stuart Immomen
McNiven
Deodato is in there too.

Marcos Martin, I guess with anything, you like it or you don't. To me, his art is something different yet similar with the old school flair. I think it fits Spider-Man well. I enjoy it. Dan Slott and Marcos Martin on Amazing Spider-Man has so far been a win in my book.
You need Ross Andru and Gil Kane on that list!

Ross Andru is the BEST Spider-Man artist ever... of all time... bar none.

'Nuff said.

Again, see, I believe he was the regular artist when you started collecting. That is usually a big influence when we start. I started just before him which was Gil Kane's pencils with John Romita Sr. inks (my version of protypical Spider-Man comic book style)

But, Ross Andru came shortly thereafter and was the major Spidey artist when I was a kid (hey, remember Spider-Man vs Superman?). He was aces, loved his Spider-Man and Pete and the supporting characters! When he left, that was part of the reason I stop collecting comics during high school.

I'll admit that my love of Andru simply stems from when I got into comics... but I was also reading Marvel Team-Up, Marvel Tales as well as Spectacular Spider-Man in 1976... so I had a good selection of Marvel artists to enjoy Spider-Man...

... and yes, I remember both Spider-Man versus Superman Treasury Editions... in fact, I still own them (the first one is quite beat up due to repeated readings)...

I gotta stick with Romita Sr. Though for my money he's the best story teller of all.

Maybe its cause i grew up in the 90s but to me, Bagley is the quintessential spiderman artist. It seemed like whenever you saw a picture of spiderman during that era, it was usually a Bagley pic or imitation.

No, I think they were very good for their time.

I also think top level comic art has progressed/improved since then.

Not when you're looking at the work of Deodato or Finch

Other artists whose spidey I like:

Kitson
Djurdjevic
Dell Otto
Ron Garney (loved his back in Black work)
Crane (I should mention, Crane's art can wear on me, but I really enjoyed it while he was on a Spidey title for a while).

In your opinion.

I'm with Random Havoc. I just don't have the tastes for older styled artwork. I appreciate it for it's time, but I don't consider it good these days. Unlike some of the older posters, I have no nostalgia to help me appreciate the quality.

I think it's the 90's.

I gotta go with John Romita as quintessential Spider-Man Artist

When you hear the words "Spider-Man" how many of you have this image pop up in your head?

I can honestly say... zero. I don't remember ever seeing that image before. For me it's Bagley.

Though I just thought of another that I loved... good ol' Sal Buscema!
