It was window dressing and the only sequence that kind of had fun with it--the mall scene--got cut. And then you add in that Xavier, Magneto, and Beast all look way too young (they wrote themselves an out that Mystique ages slowly, but that doesn't explain the others).

I am fine with the time jump in DOFP. The context of 1973 and the failure of the Vietnam War was elegantly used to inform both Charles and Raven's arcs. The kind of cynicism and misery of the period also worked well when paired with the story about an apocalyptic future.

But I would have been fine staying in the '70s for some time after that. Or at least the '80s, because the new team was barely introduced before we're jumping to them being in their apparent prime.

I wouldn't say completely wasted. There's a lot of hokey things that I can only imagine coming from an 80s styled movie (tho I still see it as the closest thing to 90's TAS). As for the political angle, this is the one that changed it the most relative to only the military finding out in FC to the public gasping at Mystique & Magneto. This is looming nuclear holocaust and Apocalypse happens to disarm the entire planet.

Except that "looming Nuclear holocaust" doesn't actually feel looming at all in Apocalypse.

Marvel cancels Inhumans. MCU officially a failure.

Just reboot everything.

I still can't bring myself to finish that show. I saw the first two episodes and couldn't believe what I was seeing.

I think it'd probably qualify as the worst live-action superhero adaption ever made.

Anybody watch the HiTop Films video essay called "Man of Steel v Winter Soldier: Changing an Icon"?

It's pretty good.

The notion that MoS gets it wrong by changing Superman, while WS gets it right by changing America is spot on.

What I wouldn’t give for a Superman movie that places a proper depiction of Superman in today’s world. Seeing how he copes with it, comes to terms with it, and changes it for the better, would be fascinating.

Yep. It's probably the greatest movie of all time... that WB had decided to keep to themselves because its too amazing.

And Disney pays off critics, and Joss Whedon changed 95 percent of Justice League, and Batfleck is staying for 3 more movies.

They were supposed to reboot after the disappointment that is the Dark World.

Well I'll be damned, AoS got picked up for an abbreviated sixth season.

Does that mean the show has too many fans compared to what we see about it online? Ratings included.

From what I've seen it doesn't have great ratings, but it's one of ABC's most DVR'ed shows and it performs very well for them internationally.

I think at this point the traditional ratings system is kind of antiquated because AoS has been on the cusp every single season. ABC tried to cancel it at one point but Disney strong-armed them into thinking otherwise.

I think an abbreviated season could do some real good for the show. I'm just shocked that ABC is giving it another go.

They reached 100 episodes which allows it to make money on syndication.
