Jesse makes Quincannon a bet he can't refuse, Cassidy works to fend off the angels, and Tulip tries to bring justice to Annville.

Yeah, not much going on in here. I liked the first few episodes and I can see this world that they're building....still have yet to see this episode but looking forward to it. I hope the series does well, there's nothing else on TV like it.....or is there. Lemme know fans!!

The show has been pretty solid so far but putting it up against GoT and the NBA Finals has hurt it.

Hopefully AMC realizes this and doesn't get jumpy. They gave Halt and Catch Fire 3 seasons despite low ratings given the critical praise it received. Hopefully this gets another season and they move it a little deeper into next summer.

They are going with a slow build for the show.

They wanted to show Jesse's time as a preacher and save money by setting the first season all in the small town.

Once Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy hit the road I think it may generate a bit more excitement.

I don't have a problem with a slow burn, but the drastic changes to character backgrounds, personalities and motivations kinda throws me off.

I'm also speaking as someone that has read Preacher so much I've pretty much got it memorized so it's a bit jarring.

I don't mind deviations. I think it would be boring if it was absolutely 100% accurate.

You mostly mean John Custer right? Here's my theory

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:

What if John Custer worked out a deal with Grandma in which he is allowed to take Jesse away as long as he raise him as a good preacher and any slip ups and they're coming for them? That is why he beat Jesse in front of the other kids so that they spread the word.

We gotta remember the last scene we see between Jesse and his father. Wouldn't it be sadder if Jesse was just realizing in those last moments exactly why his father was super strict ? And there he learns the difference between good and bad guys.

It's not just that. It's everyone. Their personalities are somewhat similar, but Jesse staying in Annville WITH the word? No. Cassidy hanging around Annville for no particular reason other than he's cool with Jesse? Naw. Tulip actually wanting to be a hitwoman? Nope.

So many things are so drastically different that it's jarring.

Jesse couldn't stay in Annville with the word in the comics because his church blew up during service when he got the word. In the tv series he is possessed by the word in the middle of the night and no explosions happen and he can stay in town for now.

Once again, I'm speaking as someone who has almost memorized the books. The changes are jarring.

It's not a bad show, but it's hard to reconcile.

A bit of a slower ep, but I didn't mind it too much. I just wish that this wasn't the ep that my dad finally decided to watch with me and that episode 2 was , lol.

Not being beholden to the books I think the show is good so far even if at times the pacing is slow. Nothing feels too drawn out yet though so unless they just sit around talking for an entire episode I'm not going to complain.

4 episodes in and the only characters with a clear goal are the angels. And seriously, a good chunk of the audience probably has no idea about what's going on.
