Default The Cult - inspiration for TDKR and BvS

I'm re-reading the Jim Starlin and Bernie Wrighston classic The Cult and I have noticed a lot of simularities between TDKR.

First Gotham is undersieged and completely cutt office from the mainland by blocking it's bridges. Some of the bridges are blocked Just like in TDKR.
It all starts from the sewers by an analog Ras al Ghul, Deacon Blackfire.
The complete nationale guard enters the sewers and gets killed.
Gordon gets injured and visited by Batman in the hospital. They have a simulair
conversation as in the movie.
Batman gets beaten and literaly comes back to Gotham to save it.
Cops are getting hanged in the city.
The Deacon takes GCPD's complete arsenal(in the movie it's Batman's)
There a page spread of Gotham almost the same as in Begins!

There's just too many...

Then I noticed a lot of shared visuals with BvS.

The clenched fist of Thomas Wayne in his murder.
Batman with a machinegun and goggles on his mask!
Heavy horror nightmares hunt Bruce Wayne.
Gordon looks just like the new Gordon where getting it's downright eerie!
Batman hanging with his hands tied above him.

And there's probably more.....

That's pretty interesting. I definitely need to reread The Cult (I don't think I've revisited since it first came out). I remember being pretty shocked that they were actually able to brainwash Batman!

After the passing of Wrightson a while ago, I re-read it a few times. The art is stellar.

I'm pretty sure TDKRises lends a lot from it. With Selena as a replacement for Jason Todd. It's like The Cult mixed with Knightfall and a few things from No Man's Land.

One of the things I remember about the art is the particularly expressive use of the eyeholes in Batman's mask to show his deteriorating mental state.

Yes, just like Breyfogle and Aparo, Wrightson played around with the white slits to show emotion.

I've read The Cult, and noticed the parallels with TDKR. Not so much with BvS, but now that you point it out, there are some similar visuals.
