A Swedish movie called "Arn: The Knight Templar". Finally, a movie about the Crusades without all of the silly P.C. Propaganda from Hollywood.

I thought Vincent Perez was a terrible actor (because of The Crow: City of Angels), so I was surprised when I later found out that he was the guy who played Arn's mentor.

La Grande Illusion-some of the camerawork almost feels modern.

Thor: Ragnarok

I also sat through the classic Indiana Jones trilogy -two of them are obviously great- and the newest one with Shia LaBeouf. I wish I could call all of them great, but 2 greats out of three well made movies is an achievement, and I do admire the presence of a decent fourth film when the director did not want to perform the task.

I saw Tim Burton's Big Eyes for the first time last night - thought it was excellent. A riveting true-life tale with outstanding performances by Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz.

ZOOTOPIA
I've seen other good movies after this one, but out of the recent batch of films I've seen I'd call this the last great one.

Great? That's a term that gets thrown around too easily these days.

Could be anything from Jackie Brown to Empire Strikes Back. As much as I enjoyed Rogue One, Black Panther and Gaurdians 2, I wouldn't call any of them great.

Dark Passage

Caught this on TCM yesterday afternoon. I'm not typically one to watch old black & white classics, but this one immediately caught my attention.

I really liked the creative way the film was presented in a first-person perspective, prior to Vincent's plastic surgery. I was also surpised by the trippy visual effects during the operation when Vincent was dreaming. For a 1947 film they're pretty good.

If you haven't seen it, I highly reccommend it. Hope to see more from Bogart on TCM.
