Does anybody know why Doomsday tried to attack Lex in the UC? I mean, Lex said himself that he's born to obey him.

We may not get a lot of them but man do we get some fantastic moments of Superman being Superman.

You know, its funny, I did NOT like Lex when I saw the film in theater. He just annoyed the crap out of me. But after watching the UC, I really enjoyed him for the most part. I don't know how I had such a 180 turn but I think I think with my expectations now set and actually being able to pay attention to some of the lines he was saying (he had some very clever, quotable lines that can be listen in Eisenberg's manic deliver) I think I appreciated him a lot more.

Umm because he's Doomsday. There's your reason.

Best moment of BVS for me as a massive Superman was:

SUPERMAN: You lost.

LEX: I don't know how to lose.

SUPERMAN: You'll learn.

the one moment in the film they actually gave superman a bit of spunk and personality. I loved it

Lex mistakenly thought the thing would obey him because it was made with his blood.

The computer tells Lex that Krypton banned the creation of such an abomination. They banned it for a reason probably because it was an unpredictable monstrosity that couldn't be controlled.

I love that moment. And this other moment:

Lex: *calls Anatoli* "Break the bad news."

Batman: "I'd rather do the breaking in person."

Lex: *smug grin fades*

that was totally a Superman moment straight from the comics. And personally I think we got more than people think.

This is interesting to me as well. I didn't hate Lex in the theatrical cut, but I didn't really like him either, I just took him for what he was. But in the Ultimate Cut I quite liked everything about it. I think allowing his plan to be shown in its entirety helps add layers to him that were previously missing.

Which is in itself interesting, because comparatively he had very little actual screen-time cut in the theatrical release.

I liked all his interactions with Lex. They were very... Superman. Meaning, they reminded me of the comics. Little bit of arrogance, little bit of hubris, little bit of the attitude that I'm sure was killing Lex, then the deserved comeuppance. Good stuff.

Awesome shot.

Which reminds me, my mother said that she wished Superman let Lex die in that shot. Obviously she doesn't care about characterizations.

A good point I saw on reddit.

The idea that Lex right then and there was still a boy and that we'll see the "man" Lex eventually.

Absolutely, Lex Luthor will evolve over the course of next movies and so will Superman, in case of Batman he will continue his character progression and start resembling his former self again in next the movie.

I just wish people had the patience (would have helped if they just released UE in theaters) to accept that Superman and Lex are still growing and that Batman is just now reverting back to who he was.

We've seen countless Batman and Superman films (not in the same one obviously). These two films have allowed us to Kent's journey to putting on the cape, Batman already 20 years in and broken down, and an upstart Lex Luthor.

They've found a way to keep it fresh. I really think these movies will be more appreciated in time.

I get those who want to see the best of these characters. We'll get there eventually.

Agreed, DC faces additional challenge in the form of keeping things "fresh", as they have had a history of making movies based on these characters, Batman has had ... something like 7 movies and Superman also had 5 movies before this new DCEU started, it's Not like Marvel where they were making first movie ever on every hero (on big screen, not counting Hulk and Spider-Man).

I watched the Ultimate Cut last night. Many of the problems of the theatrical cut were still present, but there is no denying that it was better. I kinda feel like the 6/10 was bumped up to a 7.5/10 or something. They did a good job of fleshing out certain things, like the stuff in Africa, but even so, I thought that whole subplot was stupid to begin with.

The Knightmare is also an inversion of the opening in Africa.

One has mercenaries killing to frame Superman.
The other has mercanaries killing *for* Superman.

Both feature desert type environments too.

More so with Spider-man, but what they are doing with these 2 characters now is similar to some of the things WB has done.

Especially Spider-man. I think this is indicative of Marvel's success, and future success.

Does anyone know if the Ultimate Edition DVD/Blu-Ray contains the first Comic-Con teaser that featured Superman appearing through the Bat Signal?
