Hope we get to see more Saint action. I think he's gonna totally wipe out Ratwater.

Part of me wishes I never read the book.

The show is interesting, it's just so...far from the book it's a different animal.

I think the ending of next week is finally going to be when Fiore and DeBlanc release him against Quincannon and his mob. I wouldn't be shocked if the second to last episode is all about the Saint's origin before heading into the finale that could be a GoT level blood bath.

I binge read through the entire series @ 1998-ish, I'll admit it's different, but it's undoubtedly the same spirit that made the comic work.

I hope the get to the Saint stuff soon, loved the character, happy he's in the show played by an unknown. He is another one of those characters people default to Clint Eastwood when they think of casting choices.

Amazing that the one character who has the biggest act of faith is Cassidy. He literally put his life up for grabs in faith of Jesse.

I am really enjoying this show, but I am not digging how unlikable Jesse and Tulip are. I get the story not quite being like the book, but the characters are so different as well. Jesse started out likable, but he is completely unlikable now. And right now, not in a good way. The only characters I "like" are, Cassidy, Emily and Eugene. And I get the sad feeling Emily will be dying soon.

People who have read the comics, do you think with Jesse's command for Odin to serve God, do you think at the end with Odin we're going to see......you know....it?

I never thought about that. That is a great idea.

This is why when people say "the spirit of the book" has been maintained, I disagree.

The core of the comic was how much Jesse loved Tulip and vice versa. In no way shape or form was Cassidy anyone's moral compass.

Frankly, I agree with whoever said that the book Jesse would have killed TV show Jesse in a heartbeat.

I don't see a drop of comic book Jesse in the show. Tulip is just as bad. She's all anger and damn near a stalker.

I agree with javonstokess. I've read the book a dozen times or more and the "spirit of the book" argument has become less and less valid to me with each new episode.

Even ignoring the book completely, the TV version of Jesse doesn't make for a decent hero so far. I appreciate the creators wanting their protagonist to learn about the power inside him, making some mistakes, going a little nuts, but it's been seven episodes now. I feel by episode four, at the latest, it would have been much better to see Jesse start acting like himself again (which we've seen very little of).

Obviously I have to confess a bias being a huge fan of the comics, but I find when I step back and look at the show as it's own thing it still doesn't work all that well. The cast is good, but the pacing is a mess and the character's we're apparently supposed to root for are the least likeable of the bunch. Sheriff Root seems like a stand up guy next to Jesse and Tulip. Even the death of Jesse's father loses any power it should have by making him a jerk as well.

I really hope they turn Jesse's character around in the next episode or two. I've made it seven episodes so chances are I'll keep going until the end of the season. If we don't have a hero I can get behind by then, on top of all the other issues with Preacher, I doubt I'll bother with season two.

Yeah I agree with both of you. While I really like the show, it is nothing like Preacher.

I think that's what they are going for. Between Arseface, the church most likely getting destroyed in a war with the Saint and Quincannon plus Emily possibly dying.....all of this could cause the turnaround in Jesse to motivate him to start his quest for God.

I like Emily too but the writing on the wall for her may have been in this episode. Her character has been what it's been, no real development to it. It's clear she's in love with Jesse and he coldly dumped on her. If they hit the road in season 2, it would be hard to bring along a single mother with a couple of kids.

I'd rather they stay put then kill her off. Especially as the only thing I like about Tulip is her interaction with her. They have changed these characters so much, I don't know if I want to be locked in a car with them.

I honestly miss the love story aspect of the book. I don't even think Jesse and Tulip like each other much less have "true love".

I think the season will end with Jesse losing the church and having a crisis of faith which sets him up to being the Jesse from the comics.

They said the first season is a prequel to the comic somewhat.

First appearance of Jody and T.C. We don't see their faces though.

I find it interesting that they aren't showing the characters like Odin Quincannon and Sheriff Roots racist sides from the books.

I've been thinking this too, that this season is Preacher Begins.

I find it odd as well that Cassidy is the moral compass.

I'm going to stick it out until the end of the season, but I have a feeling the "road trip" will never happen due to budgetary constraints.

I think they want people to love Cassidy right now and hate Jesse because (for any that read the comic) perception about Cass is definitely going to change. It's working too because it seems like the casual fans of the show are so in love with the character of Cassidy are going to go insane when it happens and good TV shows bring out that kind of emotional response from the audience.

The problem is they are doing this at the expense of Jesse. With Jesse's actions NOW, you essentially need to redo the entire ending of the story.

They can do it. Supernatural has had it's characters traveling all over America for twelve seasons and it's filmed almost exclusively in and around Vancouver. That said, I'm not sure I'll bother with season two even if they do start hunting God, not unless they really pull something special in the next few episodes.

I'm not buying Arseface's backstory right now. Since we heard it from Jesse and didn't actually see it depicted, I'm thinking there is more to this story that Jesse and the town itself don't know about. I cannot imagine they'd make Arseface so unsympathetic.
