Well, this wasn't terrible, but I didn't think it was fantastic either. There were a few things that bothered me. One, there's absolutely no mention of the Hulk/Abomination fight(that I remember) that took place in Harlem. The 2nd was the mention of President Obama. In the MCU, it's President Ellis. While I know those two things might not seem like a big deal to some, to me it's irritating.

Maybe Obama had just one term in MCU?

Here's an essay I wrote discussing some of the criticism surrounding Luke Cage: THE BALLAD OF LUKE CAGE: UNDER THE SHADOW OF BIGGIE, CP TIME & THE PUBLIC’S *****

Loved this show. It had a couple rough spots (the choreography of the final fight wasn't very good and Diamondback looked silly) but overall it was a fantastic series. Marvel is just killing it with its Netflix shows. Bring on Iron Fist and The Defenders.

I was looking up the cast and crew on Luke Cage and this blew my mind

Jeremiah Richard Craft as Dave Griffith: A young kid selling videos of superheroes in action.

what are the odds of a character in a tv show or movie having my first and last name wow.

Came into this knowing nothing of the character except for what I saw on that horrible Spiderman cartoon. And I liked it. Loved the soundtrack to it. Liked Misty a lot. Always a pleaser to see Claire. Cottonmouth was the better villain. Was expecting more from Diamondback with the way Shades was hyping him up. Luke should have told Diamondback "you look like a damn fool" at some point during their final fight because he really did.

Not only that, but is he the MCU version of Luke's friend David "DW" Griffith?

Yeah, sounds like it.

I have to say if there was one thing that disappointed me in the show it was the death of Cottonmouth. I get that they wanted to build up Mariah as the big bad but I think maybe they should have saved his murder for the last or next to last episode. He was such a threatening, compelling and sympathetic villain that killing him off in episode 7 or whatever episode it was makes me feel like they shortchanged him. I think it also was a bit of a disservice to Diamondback, who was also a good villain but is forced to basically try and top the previous primary antagonist in half the time. I still think the show was great but I feel like they should have saved Diamondback for season 2. Just imagine how much more impactful it would have been if Luke and Cottonmouth (who had been oppressing the small businesspeople of Harlem for years) had a slugfest at the end in the streets instead of Diamondback (a man who no one really knows). I think that would have worked a lot better.

Ultimate Spider-Man is a good show.

First president reveal in MCU is in Iron Man 3 in 2013.

Banner said he destroyed Harlem in The Avengers. Scene in video above.

I assumed this was overshadowed by The Incident.

Yeah but you think such an event would stick in their minds too.

Seems like everyone's forgotten about Incredible Hulk .

Yeah, the timeline works fine if you assume Obama lost to Ellis in 2012.

I thought this was a bit disappointing, personally. Not bad, but I think it's just not up to par with the others. It's okay, I like most of the characters, but the plot never really got me invested and the villains were the weakest of the Netflix shows so far. Especially Diamondback. That guy dragged the second half of the season waaaay below the first half for me, especially with the clunky handling of him being Luke's brother.

Did THAT fight actually take place in Harlem? I don't remember if it was mentioned or not in the Incredible Hulk.

EDIT: Wikipedia says it does.

There's one for the Avengers as well set to the theme of Full House. Good stuff!

Let's be honest here. I know that technically that movie is canon but does anyone really want to remember it?

And honestly, I liked Norton's Banner. In some ways I liked him better than Ruffalo. But that cartoonish battle at the end was probably the weakest part of the movie.

Regarding Obama's mention, I found this in ScreenRant:

" However, before we write this off as a plot hole, it’s important to note that there have been previous hints at Obama’s existence in the MCU, even though he’s never been mentioned by name before now. As noted by ComicBook in an article from 2013, Matthew Ellis says in Iron Man 3 that he was elected on a “single platform” of “protect[ing] this country at all costs” – indicating that he used the Chitauri invasion as the springboard for his presidential campaign. That would mean that Ellis wasn’t elected until 2012. Moreover, a scene in Iron Man 2 showed Tony Stark holding a poster of Iron Man based on the design of Shepard Fairey’s iconic “Hope” poster, which was used during Obama’s 2008 election campaign. Finally, ComicBook notes that President Obama’s White House Press Secretary Jay Carney is shown in news footage at the end of The Avengers.
It makes sense that Marvel’s feature films would want to skirt any potential controversy by avoiding mention of Obama by name, but the evidence suggests that Obama was President of the United States in the MCU timeline from 2008-2012. In 2012, the Chitauri invasion gave Matthew Ellis a single-issue platform that he used to win the election. This makes Thembi’s reference to Obama singing an Al Green song during a 2012 speech a little dubious, since it would have happened during a failed re-election campaign, and you could question why Obama is still dropped into conversation so frequently despite the fact that he’s not the President any more. For Marvel fans who are looking to make sense of this continuity issue, however, the “Obama wasn’t re-elected” explanation fits well enough"

Eh, even with only one term, he's still the first African America President. That would be a worth a lot of references, relatively speaking, even if race relations take somewhat of a back burner next to the world turning upside down.

I have one question, and sorry if it's been brought up, but Pops mentions that Luke wants to get paid under the table because he is wanted by the police and he wants to keep a low profile, but was he not the owner of that bar in Jessica Jones? How is that keeping a low profile? I could be misremembering and he was only working at the bar?

I recall one line about how his wife set it up so everything was in her name and not his? Not sure how that worked after her death, but I vaguely recall that being said at some point.
