I only started reading about this a few hours ago. Didn't even know that the show had been cancelled rather than run its natural course before that.

How was the other material repurposed? Other books? 2 seasons is a lot of content that we never got as intended (especially as the first 2 seasons feels like a warm up and the 6th isn't really a proper season).

I enjoyed Rebels a lot but Clone Wars I think is considerably better.

They actually showed a couple of unfinished episodes and sequences at various Celebrations and on the blu ray of season 6. They're only very basic animatics and storyboards, but they're a couple of arcs worth of story being conveyed and they're fully voiced. There was also very recently a sequence they showed that featured Boba Fett vs Cad Bane that was voiced and roughly animated. It kind of makes for a couple more episodes worth of content, and it's all online.

Some of the final arc of the show, Siege of Mandalore, was shown in the Ashoka novel as well. It's only the very start of the book, but it roughly shows you what Ashoka, Rex and Maul did in that finale and how they escaped.

If you enjoyed Clone Wars so much, I'd highly recommend the novel Dark Disciple. I haven't really kept up with the novels much and certainly not as much as the comics, but I picked that one up after Force Awakens and adored it. It's another arc that never came to be, picking up Ventress' story. I'd also echo the recommendation of Gillen's Vader, the crown jewel of the line at the moment. At least in my eyes. Aphra's been great too. Star Wars was pretty great for three arcs but arcs 4 and 5 are rather hard to finish. I still haven't gotten to finishing 5, I just skipped over it and went to Screaming Citadel about halfway.. Looking forward to Gillen doing that soon.

Thanks a lot for all the above guys. I'm keeping a record of all recommendations like this. Watching Clone Wars was itself originally a recommendation that has turned out very well! From Season 3 onwards it has been exactly the kind of thing I always wanted from a Star Wars series.

Ugh, a break. Guess we are going to have to wait for late winter or spring for the announcement of the new series.

I'm assuming Crawler Commanders means Wolf and Gregor are returning.

This sounds as fun as international breaks in football.

Ezra doesn't look too much older this time right? I liked the ageing up in season 3.

Season 4 probably isn't that long after season 3. I'd go as far as to say only a couple of months or so.

If even that. I expected it to pick up right after we left it. I expect a decent chunk of time to pass during the season though.

I can't wait for this season but sucks its the last one.

I wonder if there will be more little connections to the old Republic era. Maybe some mention of kotor....

Oh right. What was the rough time gap between season 2 and 3?

Yeah it was something like 6 months to a year between seasons.

Only tangentially related, but it was announced at NYCC that Timothy Zahn is writing (or rather, has already written) a sequel to Thrawn, called "Alliances" which will be about Thrawn and Vader working together to stop some new threat to the Empire. Due for release June, 2018.

Wonder if it means Thrawn is making it out of Rebels and into the next series.

Might well be, because the previous novel went directly into Rebels, with Thrawn being sent to take down the Ghost crew at the end.

So do you guys think that the show after Rebels will be set between RoTJ and TFA? Seems highly likely to me or maybe before TPM.
