Bought my 1070 for 585 CAD (minus 20 with the mail-in-rebate offer) around Christmas.

Very happy with it so far (1080p gaming). After I'm done with Bioshock Infinite, I'll jump on Arkham Knight to really push the card and see how it performs with my setup.

I tried the Ghost Recon: Wildlands beta the other weekend and I was able to run everything max'd out.

Nice! That was how much I looking at for the overclocked Asus Strix GTX 1070. I tested my new rig out with Rise of Tomb Raider last night. Maxed everything except antialiasing out and got an average of 75 fps at 1440p. It looked glorious on my 32" monitor at 75 herz.

I'm upgrading to a modern i7 and 1080 in a few months myself. I finally ran into a game that I can run well and that's when I upgrade.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is also up there also in most benchmark reviews I have seen. If you turn everything on max, like VXAO on, ROTR is pretty demanding. It and the Division are pretty comparable to The Witcher 3 from what I have seen in terms of hardware demands.

Alright guys so when it comes to my PC I'm curious what I should think about upgrading next - my GPU or my Processor. I've got an R9 380 4gb GPU and an AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core Processor. Which should I upgrade next?

I'd say to upgrade your CPU since it is almost five years old. Though, changing to a more recent AMD CPU means changing your mobo (yours has an AM3+ socket; Ryzens have AM4) and changing the mobo also means potentially upgrading your RAM. You'll also have to re-install Windows (thus re-purchase a license) because you're upgrading some major hardware (CPU or mobo).

Your GPU is still decent so if you have the budget I'd go with upgrading your CPU/motherboard/RAM.

They get less money the way it is now as I don't feel in a rush to jump in. With mobile phones they've finally come up with annual upgrade which takes cares off all the problems for me and now I always have the most modern phone and get it upgraded every year. I would do the same for all my tech stuff and happily pay more knowing I wouldn't have to bother selling it afterwards and would always have cutting edge stuff. I hate buying something like a top end TV and in the last year or 2 before you upgrade you're actually behind the curve despite spending all that money.

Usually when you build a custom PC, you buy your hardware with future-proofing in mind. If you don't, well get ready to take out your wallet to upgrade to the latest CPU and GPU.

My current rig is almost a year old and I don't intend to upgrade anytime soon. I may just add a 500GB SSD for games if there are any interesting deals in the coming days. I'll keep my GTX 1070 for at least two more years before I start looking for an upgrade. And when I get a new GPU, I simply put the old one in a previous PC for an HTPC/couch gaming setup.

I'd be happy to pay an annual fee to keep my stuff up to date and sell back outgoing equipment with zero hassle. Phone companies have finally caught up to the fact that people who are paying a premium to buy the cutting edge phones don't want to be hanging onto the same one 20 months later when a non-enthusiast might then have something better just due to their respective contract situations and this is also an issue with home cinema fans who spend big on equipment that gets outdated quickly. I'd like for all my tech stuff to be handled this way even it means making a custom deal with a local independent store.
