The way SONY dominated Marc Webb was way more hardcore than anything in 50 Shades anyways.

E.L. James has some serious trust issues. Asserting creative control is one thing but not letting the screenwriters and director do their job is another.
So? Gillian Flynn wrote the script for Gone Girl.

There's a clear quality difference there.

So what? Someone already compared her situation to JK Rowling and how she was hands off. Well Gillian Flynn wasn't hands off. She got to write the script for a movie based on her novel. That's not the norm, but it happens from time to time.

I think they should be trying to make the sequel a better film, allowing James to write the script will pretty much guarantee that it will probably be much worst. I understand her trying to get control but she is delusional about her abilities.

Flynn had a clause in her contract that gave her the right to adapt "Gone Girl" as a screenplay, whereas E.L. James doesn't. And I can't believe I want to mention Flynn and E.L. James in the same sentence, but Flynn is realistic about film adaptations, studio politics and what can/can't work. And she's a better writer.

Furthermore, Flynn wasn't instrumental in casting, she didn't put her foot down on changes Fincher wanted to make, and she was involved with her property without being a control freak. Apparently Fincher liked working with her so much, they're doing an HBO miniseries.

SPIDEY is right, Universal needs to make a better sequel and the first thing that needs to be done is make it clear to James that she needs to be a team player.

The dirt sheets are reporting that Jamie Dornan is quitting the Christian Grey role because his wife was uncomfortable with him playing the character.

He's a fool if this is true, but me thinks this is an elaborate play to get a bigger pay day given that its made more than $400 million worldwide!

Have you read her contract? How do you know she doesn't? How do you know she can't negotiate for one?

Yet she still wasn't hands off. She still adapted the script.

The script is one thing. She didn't clash with Fincher over casting, editing or small things. Their process on GG was collaborative not combative. They were willing to compromise to tell the best story.

That's not what happened on 50 Shades, where E.L. James just threw her weight around and said "I wrote it and I say so." That's not how Hollywood works.

With the steep drop-off on its second weekend and Jamie Dornan looking for a way out, Universal needs to get E.L. James on as a team player. She's acting like Scott Rudin or Jon Peters, which doesn't bode well.

If Dornan is leaving because of his wife being uncomfortable, then they're both childish fools.

But I don't believe that's the real reason. The story of Dornan trying to leave is either flat-out false, or there's another angle, like he's playing hard to get for a bigger paycheck or something.

I think so as well. Honestly I don't know why the studio isn't willing to give them a few million more. I doubt the studio would be willing to go so far as to give them gross points however a nice double digit number would be better. Hell these movies are going to make huge amount of cash for the studio. As of now it's what 400 million ww on a 40 million budget.

Anyway according to EOline the reports of Dorman quiting aren't true.

If only the rights to 50 Shades would revert back to Marvel and they could cast Dylan O'Brien as Christian Grey, everything would be fixed.

Saying your spouse is getting uncomfortable about the role is better than saying the crazy lady who practically wants to write AND direct the film is scaring off the cast. Or is it?

-first movie makes money
-actor becomes known and has a huge fanbase
-actor says he would like to leave the franchise

i think this is negotiation for the sequel.
