Superman Returns - Came out a week before the Pirates sequel. What dumb move that umdoubtedly cost the movie millions

Hellboy 2 - Though I did not like this movie and found the first film to be much better, it came out right before TDK. UM HELLO!!!

yeah I was a fan of both Hellboy films, and yes that was a dumb move on Universal's part, they could have maybe put it in mid June, a couple weeks after Iron Man and not too close to The Dark Knight.

The Thing came out the same year as ET. Both great films but I guess people were more in the mood for cute aliens and not "spider legs sprouting head" aliens.
Now, they are both classics.

I can already predict that 'G.I. Joe' is in a bad place. Surely it looks like a bad movie (I'm holding hopes that it may be fun, either way), but this an F'n 'G.I. Joe' movie. You don't release these kind of American-made movies in August... you release them in July. It's like releasing 'Captain America' in December (which, hopefully, will never transpire).

:facepalm

These two movies weren't hurt by ET because no (good) parent was going to take their kid to see these movies, they were for adults, not kids, like ET was.

People also need to stop saying Hellboy 2, the movie just wasn't that good. Great effects, sure, but just like Hellboy 1, the story sucked and went nowhere. You know that old saying a hero is only as good as his villian, well Hellboy is the epitome of that saying.

Now I can't really speak for whether or not the films would have made that much more money, but I'm sure a Summer or Fall/Halloween release would've done wonders for these three, IMO.
The most sought out release dates ever couldn't save these two. Just bad films, plain and simple. But I guess that's what you get when your directors are a comic book writer and a kickboxer.
