Ditto. Even if not as deftly handled as it could be the dialog and riffing in the Stallone flicks feels organic to those types of characters. In the FF films they can go on about "family" and such but it feels pretty forced.

Plus The Expendables left half their pay to the impoverished South American nation they liberated.

Torretto's crew stole countless poverty stricken Brazilians peoples life savings and retired in luxury.

Well you must admit the latter is probably the more realistic of the two scenarios.

I never got that impression and I enjoyed the first two. They were more in line with all the other military ensemble action movies except with cornier puns for obvious reasons. The Losers or SWAT would be in the similar vein of what you're referring to.

I'm a big fan of the Fast and Furious franchise, but I never bought into the family angle either. Or the prayers they say, the cross Dominic wears, etc. Those characters have killed countless people at this point, among their other countless crimes, and are pretty much monsters. Super fun movies, but thinking the lead characters are anything short of hypocritical super villains is bananas.

Passengers (2016) is a decent movie, its first and second acts are pretty good as they are, that is coming from someone who thinks the general idea of the movie is dumb.
The third act could have gone different, been more interesting, but it was a missed opportunity that paved way for more questions like; why didn't the two have children?

Rogue One is just as egregious as the prequels, but for completely different reasons.

I think I made a post or two about this when Rogue One first came out. It's terrible. But fans were hyped about the prequels when they were first released too, and over time the reputation of those films became what it deserves to be. I think (and hope) that in time, Rogue One gets recognized as the pandering, poorly made drivel that it is.

Upon a few more viewings, I have to say that Rogue One isn't all that special besides the third act, chiefly the final space battle and that Vader scene. The characters are kind of bland too save for K-2SO and Chirrut. Needless to say, I think it's far from a bad film.

Couldn't have said it better myself! Although, I'm not sure this opinion is too unpopular outside the fan community. Most of the people I went with opening night left the theater worn out and confused.

I like Logan, I actually saw it twice so far, and I probably will watch it again when it comes out for home release. But what I'm already sick of is people acting like it's some breakthrough, groundbreaking, magnum opus of superhero cinema.

It's not any of these things. It's not even the best superhero film of the past year. Civil War and Doctor Strange are both better. Although Logan is very good, it becomes so "realistic" that is stops being realistic. It's such a negative, pessimistic portrayal of how society would treat people with superpowers that it stops being believable. In the film, not only is basically every mutant dead but, for some reason, the government is murdering surragate mothers and abusing their children to create new ones. So do they want to have mutants or not? In this film, the answer is both yes and no, in order to make the world as depressing as possible.

And even the idea of Wolverine and the X-Men being heroes is something that is mocked by Xavier and shamed by Logan.

Someone earlier in the thread used the term "misery porn." That's a good way to describe it. The break in the middle where they stay at a farmhouse is really wonderful, until it is ruined by the arrival of X-24. It would have been bad enough if Xavier had died and even worse if the son, or the mother, or the father had died. But not only do all those people die but even some rowdy neighbors also die. Everyone dies! Why? Because the film is set in some world where the worst possible thing always happens, I guess....had Xavier and maybe one family member died, it would have been heartbreaking, but the death toll gets so extreme that I end up going totally numb.

Then there's the kids. Honestly, they probably did about as good as one possibly could with kids but then again, why did they need to be so young? Some of the scenes just look goofy because of it. A group of kids trying to look menacing while killing someone, or full-grown soldiers struggling to catch up with a kid running through the woods...it just looked silly too often.

Laura. Everyone talks about amazing she was and, again, she's probably almost the best you can do with a kid that age. But she's still a kid. Are we all just going to ignore that they made her convincing by not giving her any lines for over half the film? Even though it's eventually revealed that she can speak English just fine?

And her speech at the end where she's quoting a movie she saw once line for line...takes me right out of the moment every time.

Dwayne Johnson has never been on a good movie or given a performance better than serviceable.

Doesn't that describe all the movies? With different names in each movie?
I'm not impressed by the movie trailer.

TLJ trailer didn't look interesting. Rey's training looked purposeless, because she can do everything already and demonstrated it in TFA.

Yeah I dont think it's bad, I say it's passable. It's that space between a above average movie and a really good movie.

After I saw Rogue One, I knew it wasn't a movie that I'll ever watch again. The characters were so freaking bland. And so many things didn't make sense to me from a filmmaking perspective and I dont think all of it had to do with the reshoots. It's not bad but it didnt offer anything i wanted/needed other than the Vader scene.

I do want to meet Gareth Evans and ask him: "Is everyone you now the most boring humans on the planet?" This guy just cannot get human characters right. I can think of 1 good character in the 3 movies from him I've seen.

On another note, they really blew it the eff out of proportion when they kept describing it as a war film.

I think reception of it will fade overtime but I dont think it'll be disliked in the general consensus
