all the negative reviews cite gun violence and making Frank more sympathetic/giving other characters to work with as a weakness. What a joke.

Yeah... The majority of the negative reviews have been painfully stupid in their attempts to politicize the show.

Kind of expected, no?

That actually helps a show like this to be honest.

It was expected indeed. The show's actually doing better critically than I honestly expected. The Punisher has always been a divisive character.

Negatives I've seen in some reviews:

- Frank is sympathetic and is haunted viciously by his family's death
- Extreme gun violence/gore
- He has moments of dark humor with Micro as their relationships moves forward in the season
- They tackle deep issues with his psyche and PTSD
- Recent mass shooters have taken his look and it hits too close to home
- There are characters in this that he has to interact with in between the bloodshed.

I mean, I guess I am biased, but all of that makes me want to see it more. The positive reviews hail it as the best Marvel series ever and at DDS1 level or better.

I'm gonna binge the hell out of this on Friday.

Excited, but also not surprised. It's an Hannibal alum handling the show. Would expect nothing less than quality from a Fuller collaborator.

These people don't know the character. Fans know, well most fans anyway, that Frank Castle is not someone to idolize. I mean we like him because of how bat**** crazy he is and his whole one man war on terror thing, but he's not someone to worship.

Frank Castle is an 80's power fantasy taken to extreme levels. Frank is in many ways a portrait of a perfect vigilante, uncompromising, lethal and unstoppable. And what he is essentially doing is public service. As an idea it's easy to love him and easy to hate him. At best, he forces the spotlight onto the society, and other superheroes. He is the ultimate stress test. If his presence is needed, there is something wrong in the neighborhood. He is more than just a pastiche of a vengeance power play. And I'm hoping, with this series, we finally get to see that realized.

How are these negatives? Did they say these things simply weren't handled well?

Fingers crossed I don't have much work to do on Friday so I can jump on this as soon as it drops.

Was the van only confirmed or were there any pictures of it?

There's a clip on Facebook with him driving a van doing the "One Batch, Two Batch" line.

I'm not sure what exactly the critics expect from audiences with their moral sermons on the the Punisher.

Anyone who has heard of the Punisher knows he is a violent mentally traumatized anti-hero vigilante.

Audiences can handle monstrous protagonists (Hannibal Lector, Walter White, Dexter Morgan, Tony Soprano, ect).

I think the Punisher is probably judged a tad more harshly because he is from the medium of superhero comics which some people still view as solely as children's entertainment in which every character has high morals and principles like Superman or Captain America. If the Punisher originated in a novel then I think there would be slightly less complaints.

Essentially some reviewers got tired of his trauma with his family. They also didn't like Micro and Frank morbidly funny moments together. They just didn't like the alow moments that reflects on Frank. Didn't say much about the other characters.

As a fan of Jon Bernthal's Punisher this is exactly what we should want to see...character moments that look into his psyche. I'll gladly take a few episodes of that so the pay off is worth it.

I can personally handle criticism of things I enjoy if I feel the review is fair to the material. My issue is when there's clearly an agenda at play which I feel is what is the case with a lot of negative reviews for this.

I'm really glad I watched season 2 of Daredevil again prior to this because I thought the conspiracy angle was fairly tacked on, but I was willing to let that slide, but they referece that stuff directly in Frank's final altercation with "The Blacksmith." I had completely forgotten about that.

Yea I absolutely agree...I think that's the case with the way a lot of movies/shows are reviewed.

Yeah exactly. This is what keeps the Punisher from being a one-dimensional cartoon character like Bruce Willis in that awful looking Death Wish movie, or a lifeless, blank slate like Dolph Lundgren’s Punisher.

I've already seen a few articles online seemingly mocking the show for being about a violent, angry white man. Things always have to go back to race for some dumb reason these days. Im not white and I love The Punisher. why can't we just look at this show as a show about a man who lost loved ones and is going through the same kind of grief and anger that a lot of people would feel in the same situation whether they're white or not?

Because that is the era we live in now. We live in a time where being a pissed off white guy is pretty much ripe for being poked fun at.

Yea true indeed and sucks movies and shows like this one get bagged on because of it. Doesn't matter how good the show actually is, if it's about a violent, angry white man it's automatically bad.

Same reaction that the Death Wish remake is getting. Not that I think it's gonna be any good even with Eli Roth handling it.
