Wow I didn't notice that his costume in Avengers was that bad.

I think the outfit just didn't have a nice looking texture. Maybe if they made it more shiny or give the outfit a stronger texture, it would have looked better.

I think that's my biggest problem with it. If they would have used fabrics that gave a similar sheen/appearance to the TFA suit, it would have looked so much better. The material looks to have no substance, especially the pants, which in turn makes it look somewhat cheap. The promo art they did of the suit made it look like it was made of a heavier material better suited for a tactical operator.
