Noah Hawley is nothing special. I watched all of Legion, and it's all flash and incredibly forgettable. Every character acts and speaks the same and almost nothing happens with the plot for entire episodes. And for all the praise it got, it caused such little stir that the first thread posted in it's subforum is still on the front page. Hawley will likely create a Doom film with a few striking visuals and nothing else.
Nothing special?

Maybe we watched different shows.

I thought Legion was interesting, but the tone wouldn't be appropriate for a Doom solo flick. Hawley's involvement doesn't make this or the other upcoming Marvel supporting character films good ideas.

Haven't seen any of LEGION......but just finished seasons 1 and 2 of FARGO....and they were fantastic. That said.....didn't say I was jumping up and down with joy over the news.....I'm simply not setting myself on fire in protest.

I dunno I guess as a compromise maybe Fox will make a deal where FF characters can appear in MCU like Spider-man.

I think that would make most people happy.

Especially if Marvel Studios gets creative control over the next FF movie.

Good to hear. This will be the fourth version of Doctor Doom that Fox is giving us...that's one more than Spider-Man!

If this is the case, I would be onboard. All I want is Doom in the MCU. And it would actually be really neat to have a villain be the main character for once.

I think it might be fun if certain Fox-owned Marvel characters like, specifically, Diablo and Dragon Man making potential appearances in the film, as Diablo is also an alchemist like Doom going farther back, and Dragon Man being an android created by Proffessor Gilbert from Empire University, where Doom got to study for a while, and seeing how Doom is a specialist in creating robots.

......and why not a cameo of Michael Fassbender as Magneto?!

Just like to point out that before Winter Soldier the Russo Brother's most know credits was for Community and Arrested Development... just saying previous work doesn't always determined everything.

You are assuming he's going to do a carbon copy of Legion. Legion is nothing like Fargo, why would he repeat himself with this?

Personally I'd rather have Fox keep Fantastic Four and Marvel get Doctor Doom.

Why? The Fantastic Four blend in perfectly with MCU?

And with Iron Man and Cap about to get their swan song, we need other classic Marvel universe heroes and villains to fill the void.

As long as this stays with Fox I have no confidence nor will I see it. Despite Logan being good, I still find all the X-Films overrated and average. No excitement for anything they do.

Because Doom is deservedly the number one villain of the marvel comics and I think that he'd bring more to the MCU than Fantastic Four.

Not excited for Fox making more FF films.

Am excited for Noah Hawley. Sergej Trifunovic should play Doom.

Yeah, how dare Fox hire an extremely talented writer/director to take over a franchise they have the rights to.

They wouldn't have those rights if they hadn't made Fant4stic aka Rights Grab: The Movie.

It doesn't change the fact that they own the rights. People around here act like they held Marvel at gunpoint for the rights. Like it or not it's well within their right to make this movie and getting pissed off at Fox even when they hire not only a competent filmmaker but arguably the most competent filmmaker in television just makes people on here look like a bunch of whiners.

Screw it, I'll just flat out say I'm more excited for this than anything on Marvel's slate. I like the MCU, I really do, but I would rather risk it on a writer/director that may take risks like Hawley that could potentially create a movie that transcends the comic book genre like Logan or TDK did than have a competent middle of the road comic book movie by committee made by Marvel/Disney. I don't mean that necessarily as a knock against Marvel. They do what they do well. They still have yet to do anything that is any better than a really fun, great comic book movie though and they have just as many movies that are are borderline average. Yes, I know... shots fired.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but I need to hear what Hawley's approach is going to be. If he wants to capture the medieval sci-fi craziness of the Lee/Kirby comics, then I'm on-board. But if I hear anything along the lines of a "modern-day reimagining," count me out.

I'm guessing it would be the former. Hawley did an excellent job of adapting a Sienkiewitz and Steranko vibe on Legion. I think he could pull off Kirby better than most at least visually. Legion definitely more than dabbled with sci-fi craziness mixed with horror.

If there's one big thing I learned from watching Legion, given the various nods to the frickin' history of filmmaking,
he's got more than enough adoration for old & new.

Unless, I missed a publication, it's still a different studio that owns the rights. Fox has some Hulk-like deal with that studio.

"Thou shall not accept a Marvel movie other than Marvel Studios'"?

C'mon, stop it already with this 'Marvel Studios privilege' already. It's getting old. Of course people will get excited for it. Despite what you think about "Legion" (I thought it was great, and so did many others) Noah Hawley is a talented guy, and the concept sounds very interesting.

And Fox has been knocking it out of the park lately ("Deapool", "Logan"), so they definitely deserve the benefit of the doubt.
