Lol That is basically what we saw in Daredevil S2 with Karen, Matt and Elektra. This is where you seem confused. The writers deciding to mind comic history isn't tantamount to "shoehorning" anything in. I don't even know why you presume to think this with Misty and Danny. Whether or not any pairing works very much depends on the writing and the chemistry between the actors.
You still don't get it do you. matt/karen broke up by end of season 1 at the end of season 1.. dany/colleen are still together at end of season 1 in iron fist.. it is not comparable to what they did to put matt with elektra.. dan/colleen are together still in the defenders... u really dont get it.

w/e it isn't impossible though I just don't think they will do it.. not when they still have to fix dany rand`s character.

id like to point out they have already ****ed up.. suposedly iron fist was supposed to shoot in decemeber.. now it has been moved forward. THEY ARE RUSHING IT AGAIN.... come on dont they learn from there mistakes.. which also means not enough time to train actors to fight...

Meh...the main concern was Finn not having enough time to train and learn the fight choreography. But since he's not coming into this upcoming season as a complete novice, he won't need a lot of time to train. It's also important to note that they were rushing in part to be done in time for Defenders..they won't have that problem with S2.

Uhh...I think it's you who doesn't get it. Matt and Karen weren't even together in S1. They didn't become romantic until S2. You missed the larger point though..again. I wasn't making a direct comparison between the pairings, merely pointing out that the writers have already shown that they have no problem breaking up a pairing and exploring another.

Misty could very well be a part of "fixing" Danny. If the spoilers/rumors I read about Defenders is true, then I expect that the two will be sharing meaningful screentime, even if they aren't paired romantically this season. You aren't being realistic if you think Misty is coming merely to team up with Colleen.

I'm not sure why they are doing that. You'd think they might postpone it after DD S3, but they don't seem to care about any criticism.

I'm watching it again for the first time since it dropped. On episode 2 and I just remember the feeling of boredom back in March.

Why would they postpone it until after DD S3? Marvel/Netflix has clearly decided that shooting two shows simultaneously is feasible, as we're seeing now with JJ and LC. I'm sure they've taken note of the criticism...hence, why they hired a showrunner who's supposedly a comic book/IF fan.

so that they can iron out the kinks. The show needs a drastically larger budget. Jones needs more time for training.

It's not gonna get a drastically larger budget and Jones has essentially been training since the show began, all the way through Defenders as well. He will likely have more time to learn fight chroeography which was the biggest complaint outside of the criticisms with Scott Buck as showrunner and since the latter has already been replaced, there is really no reason to postpone anything. It's safe to say that they were aware of the problems and have been working on fixing them before the second season was announced.

The problems overall were that they rushed this show big time.

It needed double the budget that it had . I can't believe the studio didn't see the dailies and wince with fear.

The budget for all the Marvel shows was determined well before production even began on IF. It was never gonna get a bigger budget and I don't think it *needed* a bigger budget...just a more creative showrunner.

Scott Buck needed to see Iron Fist as more of a martial arts series with all its mystical elements, and not a corporate board meeting series with bits of martial arts thrown in. It's as if he knew the martial arts elements were so weak that he hoped all the corporate stuff would compensate for it and get you invested in the series that way.

Except the show didn't really start picking up until like episode six where he had to face the tournament challenge. It meanders around a lot for the first several episodes.

Well yes, but clearly one of the shows would require a significant larger SFX budget than the other. And a larger stunt budget than say LC or JJ. They didn't plan this out as carefully as it should have been.

I def agree they should have chosen a more reliable and creative showrunner as well.

Based on the comments coming from the people who saw the Inhumans opening two-parter, it's clear what the problem was here.

But why would Scott Buck have thought this? He would've reasoned "what stunts can there possibly be if we're always set in the boardroom?" Maybe only later on someone pointed out that there was a definite lack of martial arts for a martial arts series and he thought "oh ****, I guess I better get a couple of stunt guys and send Finn Jones off for a bit of training."

Meh. Pretty clear that they went into this wanting all the shows to be more grounded, including IF. That means there wasn't much of a need for a significantly larger budget. You can disagree with that approach of course but I don't think it was a case of not planning carefully enough. Now perhaps a shorter S2 (if that speculation turns out to be true) means more money for SFX and stunts. But will S2 actually have a significantly larger budget than the 13-episode first season? I doubt it.

I'd be fine if season 2 of Iron Fist was 10 or even 8 episodes if it meant more time and focus on bigger sets, action set pieces and choreography.

And by bigger sets, I want some location shots and a nice at least approximation of K'un L'un or something. I want it to look awe-inspiring; like Game of Thrones level setpiece but Marvel on Netflix.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Netflix isn't going to spend a 13 episode budget on just 10 hours of content. There may be an increase per episode, but I doubt the total would match season 1's budget, if that were the case. The only thing shorter seasons do is pick up the pacing in the stories and decrease production time. Given the critical reception Iron Fist got, I doubt they have the confidence to through GoT levels of money to bring Kun Lun to life. If anything it tells me they don't have as much faith in Iron Fist and are pulling back some money in case it can't recover.

Still, fewer episodes would mean less filler and padding that season 1 was full of.

Random490, you are very likely right. I just wanted to throw suggestions out there for how they could improve a second season since they do appear to be doing one.

Yeah, the GoT level set pieces aren't happening and that's fine. For me, the priority is just seeing more creativity with storytelling, choreography and the use of the Iron Fist. Also, seeing Misty with her metal arm. Yes, that needs to happen.

I don't need GOT level set pieces. All these old classic martial arts movies don't have that. People aren't watching them for the lavish sets either but for the awesome fighting. If you need lavish sets for this, it feels like it's trying to compensate for the fact that the martial arts sucks.

Seeing Finn Jones fighting is like seeing the modern day equivalent of David Carradine in Kung Fu. His fighting sucked too, yet he was meant to be a Shaolin monk. Here it's like you'd hope to get Bruce Lee level fighting but instead you get David Carradine.

At least stuff on level of the island fortress for Enter the Dragon

this is still a Marvel Universe story at the end of the day and K'un L'un is this amazing hidden city.

Enter the Dragon was made in the 70s. If they could have decent sets back then with what they had, what's stopping Iron Fist now?

And Finn Jones really needs to start training even now. That involves stretching. He ought to be able to kick a lot higher. His kicks were very low level like David Carradine, like he wasn't flexible enough. Enough of this crappy 1970s-level American attempt at martial arts fighting.
