I'm for it, and I also feel they should all be televised live on network TV.

There are certain crimes that merit no lesser punishment than Death. One might think that Life Imprisonment is sufficient, but that Sentence allows the Guilty both paid shelter and food for Life ( supposedly) and the hope that at some time, their Sentence might be Commuted --either by caprice of Elected Officials or by some circumstance ( there have been cases of both escapes and clerical errors releasing prisoners convicted of Capitol Crimes). Thus, a Life Sentence is in no way a "definite" punishment or even a indefinitely prolonged one. ( In most penal systems, a court sentence is automatically cut in half due to overcrowding of the prisons. Many "Life" sentences are actually made subject to Parole review by this measure) So--in ONLY cases where Guilt is established BEYOND ALL POSSIBILITY OF DOUBT.....I see nothing inherently wrong with The Death Penalty. As far as I am concerned, when certain crimes are committed, the Guilty has in effect; forfeited All Right To Life by their willful victimization of another Human Being. In short.... There is nothing wrong with people being killed. As long as it is The Right People. Bear in mind, that each such case must be considered entirely on it`s own merits and details examined minutely. There must be NO QUESTION. By the way, anyone opposing my viewpoint; please spare me any "But What If..." and "Well, Suppose..." situations you may craft to illustrate and support your dissent . I DID say that Each Situation MUST be considered individually, so I am in no way advocating an Automatic Death Sentence. As such, I have abstained from voting in the poll, since I find it extremely general in scope and waay too limited in the choices offered. |

I do not support the death penalty because I do not believe that we as human beings have the right to kill a fellow human being, except in cases of self defense.
For self defense purposes, which includes the welfare of the nation one lives in, the killing of another human being is ethical. So while abortion and capital punishment are wrong, just wars are most certainly acceptable. |

but to me Killing is never "ethical", could be "necessary" but never ethical.

Yes, of course I do. I can't even begin to understand why someone would not support it.

No, I do not support it. It's rather barbaric for a civilized nation to live by an "eye for an eye" type view of crime and punishment. Life in prison does what we need it to do - it keeps convicted killers from killing more.
Even if you could argue that some crimes are so heinous that they merit such action, the people don't seem capable of applying the death penalty "fairly." Retarded people? People who committed the crimes as minors? No, it is absolutely disgraceful that those people are put to death. Also, I'm with the Catholics on this issue. It's not our place to pass a sentence of death on fellow citizens. |

If you are retarded, and you kill someone, then you should get the same punishment. Otherwise you are just a burden on society.

As opposed to what, paying for the imprisonment of someone very few people want alive? Put a bullet in their heads, done. No more murderer, no more expensive incarceration. I think the protests from people such as yourself would be a welcome price to pay for such a system.

And a burden on society? I missed when we started killing the obese, the poor, people named Ralph Nader, and the right wing nutjobs. You don't kill someone because they're a burden. It is not your place to do so. It is not this country's place to do so. We are not WWII era Germany. |

And yes, burden to society as in "a retarded killer that can't be punished because being retarded makes you immune to common law in the eyes of the bleeding hearts", not as in "Hey guys, lets go to a Klan meeting!". Stop twisting my words around. |

Please point out to me where I stated that retarded people could not be punished? Or perhaps where I stated that we should hold their hands? Sentence them to life in prison without possibility of parole. If you think that spending the resto f your days on Earth in a cell isn't punishment, you're out of your mind. |
