Cruise should do it. It's the only comic he might consider and if that's only if they show tony as a damaged alcoholic trying to be a hero, then Tom would see it as a challenge. As far as scheduling if he liked it he would make the time. I would be ok with Depp but it's not weird enough for him. Quaid???? sorry dude quaid's the man but not for IM. DiCaprio not my choice but maybe...and that's a BIG maybe.

Tom Selleck should be the Comedian in The Watchers movie.

Tom Cruise = Unavailable + Overpriced.

MI:2 starts filming in June. Ok, got that? JUNE. Smack dab in the time when Iron Man needs to be shooting in order to come out by Summer 06, and I believe they want EARLY Summer 06 because X-Men is going to be their July 4th release that year.

Not only that, but he's 25 million frigging dollars a movie plus gross participation.

The next biggest name after Cruise and Depp who's got the dark hair and could be seen playing this character might actually available because it looks like he's only got 1 movie lined up unlike them, Colin Farrell.

Although his, Miami Vice, is scheduled to begin shooting in April. Is there any way that someone like him who's starting shooting a movie in April could still squeeze Iron Man for Summer 06 in?

Mi 3 has been moved to september and as i have tried to explain before his salary does not effect the special effects as Iron man has $100M budget

minority Report-budget $102M-TC $25M=great SFX

I apoligize for stating incorrect information. I thought M:I3 was shooting in June. But the minority report comparison is kinda iffy considering it was directed by freaking Spielberg. Who litterally had directed 15 big budget SFX films prior. Spielberg can sleep through directing those scenes by now, and probably get's alot more for less. ILM probably works for him for less for all we know.

Hey its cool,If Cruise gets the part the budget may be increased we shall see how that side pans out as it's hypothetical at the moment. Truthfully i like cruise for the part as you know but i will also be happy with farrel or JC or depp and maybe even phillipe. My only concern is dicaprio but ppl are saying good things about his performance in the aviator,so i'd give him a shot.I just wish they'd anounce someone so things could get moving

How about Bruce Cambell? As long as he plays it seriously and doesn't try to mock the genre. It could work.

Um, no. He's much too old. They shouldn't go any older than early-to-mid 30's IMO unless they can get Depp, or I suppose if you want him, Cruise.

OK, How 'bout Scott Speedman? I thought he was really good in Underworld and I just saw Dark Blue last night and enjoyed him in that too. My only gripe about him is his voice sounds a little "lispy" but maybe he could work on that. I also thought maybe he could be a good Cap. America if he's tall enough.

He's only about as well known as Tom Jane was pre-punisher, meaning not well known enough IMO.

What?

Elwes is, following the logic of this thread, both two odd and a little too quirky. I can't really picture him as the heroic side of Iron Man.

Not really Ramore. He already played the damaged alcoholic trying to be a hero in THE LAST SAMURAI. So he probably wouldn't see it as too much of a challenge since he already did it .

But has he also, at the same time, played the suave billionaire playboy with a penchant for cybernetics who happens to fight chinese villians with fu manchu mustaches and rings on all their fingers?

I DIDN'T THINK SO!

I like the idea of Karl Urban as Tony Stark (among other superheroic characters).

I doubt Di Caprio would be interested in the role now...not after playing the original Tony Stark: Howard Hughes.

What's that I hear...A collective sigh of relief..?

Well, I don't really see that working out too well. I've seen people who have cleff Pallettes, as Joaquin does, try mustaches, and it looks odd usually, very odd. Probably why I've never seen him with facial hair.

I mean, the mustache is pretty important for the iconography of the character.

He'd work visually, I just don't know if he's a big enough name. It isn't a coincidence that Hulk and Punisher had relative nonames and weren't hits. It contributed in a large way, not the only reason, but signifigant nonetheless. Urban is basically in their category before those marvel films of theirs came out.

I'd be more comfortable with an A or B lister than Urban is all I'm saying. That may sound like a contradiction coming from someone who's anti-Tom Cruise for the role but I appose Cruise for other reasons.

I think Cruise would work, although I don't think he's ever played a role quite like this one.

Bill Campbell might work.
