25 just came out last week I think. So buying the collected edition would pretty much put you up to date on the whole series.

no, that's when the actual issues run
I believe it was recently stated that thus far, a little less than a year has passed since the start of the book (I want to say about issue 6 or 7 someone realized it was christmas, and in issue 24, they're trying to get something done before summer starts) sometimes, when the group of survivors go from one location or event to another, they'll note that a week or two has gone by quickly

I didn't see an official thread about this, if there is one, please forgive me. I'll post my thoughts contained here at a later time. Semi spoilers-
I started reading this series because of the recommendations thread. The first couple trades absolutely hooked me. Then it got a little stale. Not bad, just day to day living in unreal conditions. It was interesting how old and young would seek love with one another regardless of race, age, or social background...but in some cases when things got "better" old biases crept back up. Also seeing insanity creep in when things finally seemed stable (The woman suggesting a double marrige to Rick and his wife). However, the last few issues have become unreal in terms of brutality, picking up the action in a big way. I just finished #29 today. Wow. One thing that this issue showed me is how the walking dead is about survival. Even in the worst conditions, people can still survive. No food, rape, beatings, maimings...people can surive. They may become battle scarred both mentally and physically, but there is a real strength to them. There is something great about that. Rick is a fascinating character. The evolution he has gone through from the start, up till the hanging ("WE'RE GUNNA HANG HIM!"), and the most brutal events of recent issues is really something. Its partial descent into madeness and struggle to stay alive and hold onto what keeps us human. I cannot wait to see the Govenor get his. This guy is just completely evil. His daughter is something else. I cannot think of something brutal enough for his death. Eaten alive by Zobies isn't enough. That's how evil this guy is. the introduction to the first softcover lays it all out: The Author is a huge fan of Zombie movies, but he's always mad when the movies end because he wants to know what happens NEXT. That's why this is an ongoing, with no immediately planned ending.
Kirkman's good, he'll end it before he starts beating a dead horse

the impressiont hat I get is this is this groups story. At no point in the series do they flash to anywhere else in the world except where the group we know is
that heightens the sense of isolation. While the survivors can theorize "there must be other groups out there, there MUST be" we don't really know

Aparrently, but I've only been getting the TPB's recently and I've been waiting for #5. I plan on getting the issues from where #5 ends and continuing from there. It was supposed to be released last month.

a friend of mine has been bragging this up to me for over a year now and I finally caved in and started reading it. I read the first 17 issues in one sitting and finished it up last night with issue 29. I am officially hooked on this book.

Hey, I got the first 4 TPB and I'm waiting on the 5th but I was just wondering if it's been said or shown what has made the zombies come back from the dead yet.
