Cool Watch the police and the tax man miss me, I'm Mobile!

Well, folks, I've overcome all but one obstacle in my 9-month quest to become a licensed driver. I got my learner's permit, passed driving school, practiced driving for more than 40 hours with a very competent licensed driver (during which, I only smacked into someone else's car one time), passed my driver's test, got my parents' care gifted and re-titled to myself, and got a parking permit for my apartment building. Now all I need to do is get a ride to my parents' house, get in the car and get it over to my building. Yeah, that's right.

I am now the legal owner of a 1993 silver Toyota Camry station wagon. What could possibly be more badass than a 12 year-old, silver station wagon passed onto me by my suburbanite parents? At the young, tender age of 23, even?? I'll tell you what-- a newly licensed, 23 year-old driver riding in a 12 year-old silver station wagon with George Thorogood's "Bad to the Bone" playing on repeat!! In comparison, you feel uncool just reading this, don't you?

Aren't you excited and happy for me? Of course you are! After all I've done for you people, you'd better be.

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
I'll bet high school kids from Bethesda, MD would fetch a decent price in certain markets.

Logan, all you need now is a chick in the passenger seat, ready at will to go down below when ever you come to a stop sign.

Well, unfortunately, my woman isn't quite that bold.

But don't think that thought hasn't crossed my filthy little mind.

I had a GF who still hadn't learned to drive by age 20, and it drove me CRAZY shuttling her all over the place. Then we broke up.

What took me so long? Anxiety, and lots of it. It's all tied in with a non-verbal learning disorder that makes me less able to judge spatial relationships. Also, lack of motivation. And lots of it.

How does it feel? Very, very nerve-wracking. I'm terrified to drive alone for long distances. In places where I'll be driving at slow or moderate speeds there will be a lot of other cars on the road, and in places where I'll be driving very fast (the Beltway, mainly), I don't know my way around so well. I do very well with Beltway driving, but my friend/mentor was navigating completely, and I have a crappy memory, especially when it comes to where the hell I am, where the hell I'm going and how the hell I'm gonna get there.

23 is a bit old to get your first driver's liscence.

And yet they gave it to me anyway, and legally so.

Here's an idea: if people can't either say something kind, entertaining or informative, they should feel free to keep on walkin'.

Ouch.

My woman got pretty frustrated with me about this. We live together in this apartment (we're also planning to move this August) and we don't live that close to a subway station, so it's hard when only one of us has direct transportation. But it's all good now.

I suggest taking a long trip up or down the peninsula just for the hell of it. The more you drive, the less afraid you'll be. The first thing I'm doing when I get my car back or a new one.... is I'm going on a long road trip to nowhere. Anything that gives me any sense of freadom is a need. Preferably, the ocean side but deserts and countrysides have their place also.......

The Delmarva peninsula? My folks got a beach house in Delaware, so I may do just that.

So... what exactly happened that you can't drive? Is it your car or your license that isn't in working order?
