Post Mission: Impossible 3

Source: About.com
May 5, 2005

About.com caught up with Lost and Alias executive producer J.J. Abrams and received an update on Mission: Impossible 3, which he will direct.

Abrams confirmed that Carrie-Anne Moss and Scarlett Johansson are no longer part of the cast, but he stayed mum about who will replace them and join Tom Cruise in the third installment.

"The script was rewritten," he said. "I'm a huge fan of each actor that they cast originally, but to have kept the actors when we are reinventing the story would have been an odd process, to say, 'Write a script with these people in mind for characters that haven't been written.' It just felt like we had to start over with a clean slate."

Abrams said they are deep in pre-production and that shooting starts in July "all over the world... it's going to be a pretty big scale." Paramount is targeting a Summer 2006 release for the film.

It sucks how Fincher is no longer doing this or the director of Narc since I think they were better choices than J.J. Abrams

To be honest i never thought Carnahan was a good choice,Narc was good ina low-fi gritty way but that doesnt translate well to Blockbusters like Mi-3 IMO.Fincher however wouldve been awesome,Mixing his love of Tech with a gritty essence and spectacular visual approach.I like JJ so im not worried about him as director but i don't like these casting changes at all

I personally like JJ Abrams work, especially LOST. Alias is okay. I'm just a little nervous about Abrams directing this. Isn't this his first big budget film he's directing?

Cruise hired him so he could control him better..............

It is his first bigscreen outing and i mightve agreed Tom wanted to control him but the fact he's let the 2 actresses go cos JJ said so tells me thats not the case and he said in an interview that he wanted " to see JJ's Mission impossible movie so he was giving him creative control"

Actually werent there rumours floating that Kerri Russell was in serious talks.
If Katie Holmes is cast I will boycott. I like Cruise, I like Abrams, I dont even mind Holmes but if they cast her in it forget it.
The fact that Abrams wouldnt fit them into the script is actually refreshing to hear, although I liked the idea of Moss and Scarlett.

you'll probably find he'll cast his TV muses in the lead female roles......LOL it took me a minute to realise why you were mentioning Katie Holmes

That's why I wasnt suprised when I heard Russell was being rumored (Felicity).
What's up with Cruise and his infatuation with women that are taller than him?

Eh I dont think Abrams will let Lilly be away from LOST, being filmed in Hawaii and pretty demanding it would depend on when they filmed, but I highly doubt it. I also doubt he would use Garner for yet another spy vehicle.
That's why my bets on Russell.

She would have made a great Lois Lane.
