I just dont like Robert Downy Jr - I am not sure if I let him off screen life ruin him for me or what - just never a huge fan: I dont feel I can fairly address him as a candidate.

Yeah, that was what I was saying. Robert Downey Jr is this amazing actor, who has just totally ruined himself with his drug problem. I mean, can anyone actually name one of his acclaimed performances anymore? or is he just known as that guy who went to prison for being a junkie?

It's a shame, because when he's on form, Downey Jr is electrifying. Robert Downkey Jr in his prime could bring down the house as The Joker. But there's always the risk with him, where you're not quite sure if he's a safe long-term bet for a franchise.

exactly - I would love to have a Batman Franchise that has a never changing selection of characters and actors - almost like the Harry Potter films.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. And that's why maybe we SHOULD be looking towards the younger generation when it comes to casting. I mean, look at my top choice: Tim Roth. He's an awesome actor, and would be an amazing Joker, but he's about 46 years old. By the time the third film came around he'd be 50.

A guy like Jake Gyllenhaal may, at first glance, seem to young. But as we've stated, he can be aged. And being young, he could potentially stay with the franchise for many years, growing into the role. And look at Scarecrow. I'm sure many people scoffed at Crane being in his late twenties. But Cillian Murphy was great! And Gyllenhaal is an even better actor than Murphy.

And then there's the point I mentioned before. Gotham's villains working as a dark reflection of Batman. What better way to do that than to cast people who auditioned for the role of Bruce Wayne as the crazies? It's perfect, especially because, if he wasn't Batman, Christian Bale could have been excellent as The Joker - it works both ways!

And finally, maybe it would be nice to give poor Jake a break. He was Spider-Man ever-so-briefly, until Tobey Maguire returned to the role and he was dropped. He auditioned for Batman, and was unsuccessful. He was attached to the Green hornet project which seems to have vanished without a trace. Somebody please cast him in a superhero film already!

He's not that old. He's only 40 - younger than the likes of Crispin Glover and Christopher Eccleston.

The problem with Downey Jr (whom I think is a great actor) is, in my opinion, that this time the Joker should be tall and lean.

With Jack Nicholson they got it wrong, and, despite Nicholson's very well known superb talents, he wasn't everything the Joker should be.

They should this time try to get a Joker in between Bolland's and McKean's depictions of him.

Yeah, fair point. Okay, if we're going for the tall, lean route, what about Justin Theroux?

I know this choice has been mentioned before. But after watching the excellent "Mullholand Dr." again, the idea recurred to me. He's a recurring collaborater with David Lynch, so knows all about weird and creepy, and is also an underrated actor in terms of talent.

Theroux - or the other names I've mentioned recently - are not necessarily my top choices. I'm just trying to bring up new names to keep the discussion fresh. Oh, and this awful manip isn't mine, but I found it while searching for images and thought I'd post it:

JUSTIN seems more like DENT to me. I suggested him as Joker way back before "Begins" but then quickly I changed my mind and decided he is the perfect DENT. He has and always will be my DENT lol.

Downey is a gret actor, though he may be too short for Joker, I really don't know his height. How old is he?

Gyllenhaal is a great actor as well excluding "Bubble boy" lmao. I don't think of him as a Joker-esque actor though, just my opinion.

Jaquin Phoenix is a great choice too. He has a heir-lip unfortunatly but make-up can cover that useually, a lot of make-up. I don't see him getting his voice up that high when he gets really angry though.

Although I would love Christopher Eccleston in the role, I don't know if he could pull it off. In his role of Doctor Who, a cheery and chatty character, he wasn't too good. In 28 days later and an episode of Inspector Morse, he was great. BUT. He was playing the person you didn't expect would be the bad guy. And we all know Joker isn't the person you least suspect. I think Eccelson may be a one trick pony.

This from the guy who thinks a Dark Red is Brown...

He's one of the best guys in the running. And his facial features, voice, and even the way he moves makes him one of the best guys for the part.

I don't think the Superman costume is brown, in fact of you look in the Debate thread you can see me argue with someone who thinks the suit is brown.

Oh, and you're dismissing my view just because I don't like a costume. Nazi.

I take it you couldn't find anyone to bait this afternoon in the Superman boards? Brownie, yer doin a heck of a Job. Keep fighting the good fight of convincing people that the Superman suit sucks. And that Dark Red is Brown, or not Red, or maroon. Did you ever post over here about what color the Begins suit was as well, whether it was a Grey, Matte Black, Pewter, Flat Black, Light Black (that one still cracks me up),

Eccelstone is a fan favorite in these parts, so it's not just MY opinion that he's a good potential for the role. Theres even a couple great manips of him as the Joker as well.

The only one that's baiting here is you. I didn't come here to talk about the Superman suit.

Your logic is laughable. "People agree with me, so I MUST be right." Eccleston is my favourite candidate too. But i'm not allowed to have doubts?
