This film is based on Werner Herzog's 1997 documentary 'Little Dieter Needs To Fly'.

Plot Outline(IMDB)

This film tells the real-life story of U.S. fighter pilot Dieter Dengler, a German-American shot down and captured in Laos during the Vietnam War. Dengler, to be played by Bale, organized a death-defying escape for a small band of POWs, including Duane Martin (Zahn).

Christian Bale (Batman Begins) and Steve Zahn (Sahara) are set to star in Werner Herzog's Rescue Dawn, an action-drama based on the German auteur's acclaimed 1977 documentary Little Dieter Needs to Fly. Variety says filming is set to begin next month in Thailand.

The independent film tells the real-life story of U.S. fighter pilot Dieter Dengler, a German-American shot down and captured in Laos during the Vietnam War. Dengler, to be played by Bale, organized a death-defying escape for a small band of POWs, including Duane Martin (Zahn).

Rescue Dawn marks the first time Herzog has directed a feature since 2001's Invincible. In addition to "Rescue," he's also on board to helm an untitled soccer feature. His new documentary, Grizzly Man, will be released on August 12th

Damn Bale likes to suffer lol,Sounds like a very interesating film though and there hasnt been a good one about Vietnam for a while

Bale will probably deliver, im more impressed with Zahn. Guy was known for comedic roles looks like really sold himself for this role

Bale looks like he is going the same route as The Machinist, not nearly as bad though, Zahn looks sickly!

Just watched it, looks cool! The trailer really focused on Bale's character, I thought there would be more Zahn in there! Looks good nonetheless!

Even before this I knew Zahn is a great actor, and one of the reasons I was interested in this flick is the Bale/Zahn team. Anyways, looks all right. Nothing that really rocked my socks off.
