Well, it's getting to that time again.
I made this same exact thread for X-Men: The Last Stand, since we had a new director and creative team and all. This time, not only do we have a new director, but this is also a spinoff from the main series as well (well, honestly, I'd consider it more of a legit prequel than a spinoff, but you know what I mean) The question is - do we get some of the same franchise trademarks that have been around since the first film? Does the "X" in "FOX" linger around for a second longer following the opening logos? Do we get a CGI opening credits sequence that gives a slight foreshadowing to the plot? Do the credits get followed up by a slamming Cerebro door, and the opening scene beginning inside the crystal lock? ----- Just note that this is partially done tongue in cheek, because I did the same thing for the last film. But it is something that I'm curious about, since the "X", and the Cerebro door are this franchise's version of "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away" and scrolling text floating off into space, or James Bond firing a single shot at the screen. I'd like to see those consistancies.

Jackman already revealed the opening statement will be
"The not too distant past." I like that |

I'm indifferent, but I think, if anything, this movie doesn't need consistencies like the Cerebro doors. As much as Fox would like to advertise otherwise, with increasing emphasis on characters like Cyclops and Emma Frost, this is a Wolverine origin movie, taking place long before Xavier is born, let alone when the X-Men are established. Despite the allusion in its title, X-Men Origins: Wolverine can get away with being its own movie. It can work either way.

I want something dark and subtle like the first official trailer with Stryker's voice over the wars. that's the tone they should give us when opening the picture. |

I do agree with you on Stryker's voice over though, in so far that it's amazingly kick ass. Just from his voice overs in the trailers alone, Stryker is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters in the series. I might have to go back and read "God Loves, Man Kills" just because of those voice overs. And really, this film may span BACK longer than when Xavier was alive, but I mean, Xavier was alive 15 years prior to X-Men (which is when this film majorly takes place). Also, if you look at the time line, the X-Men are already beginning to be formed. Xavier recruiting Jean was 20 years ago, according to X-Men: The Last Stand, and just by Stryker's encounters with Logan in X2, we know that this film will take place about 15 years in the past. Meaning, Xavier has already begun recruiting mutants - the movie timeline just shows that Cyclops isn't his original student.

No Cerebro doors please. Unless claws come through them from both sides, diagonally...
Flicking pages of comic books - yes! Love those, always end up going through them slowly with slow frame button to see which images are used!

It wouldn't make any sense for Cerebro to even feature in the film.

I think it's only Blade and X1 that don't have that intro.

X2 has it, but it has nothing to do with the actual film as it contains no scans of panels from X-Men comics.
That intro was created for Spider Man specifically and I guess X2 skipped on the idea of customizing it to fit its own content but HULK was the first non-spider man movie to use shots from its corresponding comic in it. My favorite so far was used in The Punisher (2004), Tim Bradstreet's covers from the Marvel Knights series really stand out in those 10 seconds |

I wonder if Fox Logo will be made by Adamantium, as we see in the Trailers. That's one of my favorite parts of Fox movies.

I actually would like it if they made a very Weapon X-style twist on the original X-intros.
The Fox logo being made by adamantium. Stryker maybe giving the voice over instead of Professor X. The Weapon X doors closing instead of the Cerebro doors. And maybe having claw marks go through them. I wouldn't mind a more somber touch like McCabe said, but I think it would be an interesting touch.

As in stuff that doesn't have anything to do with the actual film itself - yet things that have become somewhat of trademarks to the series.

I don't think those are petty but I understand what you are saying. I was so sad that they left out the Xavier intro in X3 and think that is one of the staples of these films.

The earliest dates take place in 1817, when Dog (Victor Creed) and Jimmy (Young Logan) run off from the Howlett State. The latest dates take place somewhere betweeen 1968 and 1986, we dont know exactly. Xavier began forming the school in 1986 (that's when he went out to Jean's house with Magneto). so technically during the primary film (Weapon X) Xavier is alive and forming the school. |

Rogue's origin scene that takes place 8 months before the events of X1, is supposed to take place in 2003 - 2004. X2 takes place a few months later, and X3 takes place a few years after that. |

X2 doesn't take place that long after X-Men. The story picks up immediately where the first one left off, and it doesn't take THAT LONG at all for someone to travel. It took place at worst a few weeks. X-Men: The Last Stand is definitely not a few years. Even Kinberg and Penn stated it was just a few months.
