Yeah well, they aren't serious or REAL competition though. A movie that's making less than 100K in its 10th weekend when Ghost Rider comes out is NOT real competition.

The only possible threat there would be "Garfield". However not many people were pleased with it. So it will either flop horribly or have a decent success like the last film still not making it a box office threat.

As of now ... Ghostrider has light road ahead. This film will probably outsell Daredevil but not touch FF or X-men, box office success wise. Not to mention August is a slow month in box office sales along with January. Which is a bad thing in ways ... but good in others seeing as no Studio would release a HUGE summer flick in August. Leaving Ghost Rider on its own.

Garfield probably isn't a threat either though. A totally different audience will be going to see that one than those who will check out GR.

I'd like to see it make at least 150 mil but you're probably right on the DareDevil level of 100 mill.

Little Man moved from it's August date to now premiere in October. Must have feared Ghost Rider. hehe.

What's most interesting is Zoom, which is now opening not close to X-men, but to Ghost Rider. Also, Snakes on a Plane is opening in Aug. Sam Jackson has some fans but the movie doesn't seem all that interesting and probably not too much a threat

Looks very nicely placed, with Pirates of the Caribbean opening four weeks before and no other fantastical action or superhero films close to it (I'm not counting Zoom because it's a comedy).

The Rider is coming.

I don't see any competition. I'm not worried about Superman since that comes out a bit before it, and superman's going to suck anyway, so I'll be looking forward to a good Marvel movie. The Summer will once again be owned by Marvel, X-men and Ghostrider will Rule!

Aye, yes it will.

As for competition, I'm just going with the thought that anything that's in theatres during the time Ghost Rider is playing is competition. Big or Small competition, doesn't matter. We're just coversin, ya know?

Marvel all the way baby!

if Filmjerk is correct GR will be released on July 14th...which means it will be in direct competition w/ "High, Wide and Handsome" and a week after Pirates 2.
not a bad spot imo...

Huge news today. Ghost Rider is now on July 14th (Yippy!). Looks like High, Wide and Handsome and GR switched spots.

I also added May to the list and removed October. 2 months before GR and two months after.

I agree. Plus, now Cage doesn't have 2 movies coming out the same day... even if one was animated.

MSJ wasn't lying when he said a while back that GR is a summer release but when is still in the air. We should have known then that it would be bumped.

Sony is obviously showing great confidence in this movie throwing it up against Superman... and Priates... That makes me feel good.

Me too. Showing confidence gives us all great hope and hopefully prvoe something to the naysayers.

They are also probably trying to draw some comic fans to the movie by putting it closer to X-Men 3 and Supes.

I hope that Superman flops bigtime, never had any confidence in the film. Plus it makes the only competition Pirates...

It's great that we'll get to see it a bit earlier now, but I am a teensy bit worried about how close it is to Pirates of the Caribbean 2. That's a movie that has massive appeal across a broad age range and will get a lot of return business, especially with families. Could do some serious damage to Ghost Rider's ticket sales.

And if Superman Returns turns out to be brilliant, even after two weeks it could still be THE movie to see.

Let's just hope Ghost Rider turns out awesome and the marketing is big and bold enough to contend with the competition.

I'm not worried. I have all the faith in the world that Ghost Rider is going to be a sleeper hit. Plus, it's not necessaryily a bad thing to release a movie when a lot of people are going to the movies. Hopefully GR will drawn in some fans who've just seen Supes or Pirates...

... or maybe people will be on their way to see Supes or Pirates and catch a glimpse of the Ghost Rider poster or standee and say "Screw Supes or Pirates, I'm gonna go see that"!
