Mark Snow's been nominated for a Cesar, France's Oscars, for a French movie he scored. Unfortunately, the PR doesn't mention his work on Smallville.

“COEURS" COMPOSER

MARK SNOW

NOMINATED FOR

FRENCH CÉSAR AWARD

Awards Presented February 24

(Paris, France) Film composer Mark Snow has been nominated for a César Award, the main national film award in France, for Best Music Written for a Film for "Coeurs" (International Title: "Private Fears in Public Places"). Snow is the only American composer nominated in the category. "Coeurs," adapted from an award-winning play, offers a darkly comedic glimpse into the lives of six lonely characters and the strange circumstances that connect them. It also received recognition in seven other categories including Best Director (Alain Resnais). The award ceremony takes place on February 24.

Snow has received numerous Emmy nominations and ASCAP awards. Last year, he became the first composer to receive ASCAP's prestigious Golden Note Award for lifetime achievement and impact on music culture. Past Golden Note recipients include Elton John, Sean "Diddy" Combs and Stevie Wonder. He has enjoyed great popular success as well. Mark Snow's iconic "X-Files" theme remains a worldwide phenomenon.

Classically trained at Julliard, he continues to blend his orchestral style with electronica influences. His impressive list of over one hundred television and feature film credits includes "Starsky and Hutch," "Crazy in Alabama," "Disturbing Behavior," "Millenium" and "Ghost Whisperer."

The other nominees in the catagory were:
...Eagle Egilsson for CSI: MIAMI, Nathan Hope for CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION, Gale Tattersall for HOUSE M.D., and (Bill) Roe with a second nomination for an episode of DAY BREAK.

All from more mainstream skeins...

Tom DIDN'T get nominated for a Saturn... Neither did Glover or Rosenbaum, although Mack and the show itself did.

Here's the list:

http://www.saturnawards.org/nominations.html

This year, of all years, Tom really deserved to win for Labyrinth.

I dont think Labyrinth would be in consideration for this year's awards, would it? It only aired 3 weeks ago, and those noms were voted on months ago most likely

Do you have to pay to submit something for a nomination, I heard you do for an emmy or an oscar, if I heard correctly. Maybe their people didn't do it this year.

Well, TPTB send out screeners (or have screenings) and place ads in the trade papers but they don't actually have to "pay" the nominating committees for being considered.

*ahem*

Well, maybe After School special/issue episodes aren't every fans' favorite, but they tend to get awards.

For example, "Rage" has been nominated for a Prism award in the Television Drama catagory. The Prism awards are given to movies and tv shows that bring health issues to light, or something...

I didn't actually read this that closely, but "Rage" was nominated (I guess) because of it's dealing with drug addiction...

http://prweb.com/releases/2007/3/prweb511223.htm

Quote:
The PRISM Awards are for productions and performances featuring the accurate depiction of drug, alcohol and tobacco use and addiction, as well as mental health.
Okay, as much as l like the episode is Ollie getting strung out on a drug that doesn't exist really an accurate depiction of drug addiction?

I dunno, but I guess they thought so...

I guess its the perception or the idea that all drugs are dangerous, regardless of their chemical compounds.

I guess...

I just think it's weird they picked an episode without real drugs in it as being an accurate depiction of drug addiction. I guess, the symptoms are the same as real drug addiction...

"Addiction" can be both a physical and a psycho symptomatic condition. Either the brain is affected or the body, or both. Getting "addicted" to anything - particularly a drug (whether it's real or fictional) is probably not something one wants to do, and there are ways to avoid the predilection and/or break the habit. Sometimes the best way to explain something is through metaphor or fictional accounts. Rage (and Void) are examples of the latter.

I'm addicted to a weight loss supplement even though I'm in the shape I want to be finally. I still take it. I'm afraid if I don't take it I lose the stomach I worked to define. What should I do?

Mark Snow won an ASCAP award for SV on 4/17/07 for "Most Performed Underscore" at the 22nd annual Film and Television Music Awards of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, held at the Kodak Theatre.

The award honors the ASCAP composers whose works have earned the highest number of performance credits on television in the category of dramatic underscore for the 2006 survey year.

The emmy noms were announced just now, Smallville had only one nomination for Sound Editing for Zod.

http://www.emmys.tv/awards/2007pt/59thnominations.php

Smallville • Zod • CW • Tollin/Robbins Productions, Millar/Gough Ink, and Warner Bros. Television
Sound Editing, Sound Editing Nominees TBD

btw: that looks like it's the CW's only nomination.

Indeed, and it's come as a bit of a surprise...

Quote:
"Programs that appeal to younger audiences have also fared poorly, as evidenced by the lone nod to the CW network ("Smallville," for sound editing), after predecessors the WB and UPN combined for six last year."

Quote:
"The CW, the newest broadcast network, was no more successful at attracting Emmy nominations than viewers in its disastrous first season: It had just one, for sound editing on its young-Superman series 'Smallville.'"

Quote:
"Proving once again that the Emmys are an outdated institution on the edge of irrelevance, the nominations came out today, and outside from a few pleasant surprises, it’s more of the same – the same shows being rewarded, the same shows being snubbed, etc.

'Gilmore Girls' and 'Veronica Mars' – two shows with dedicated (if not small) fanbases that ended this past May, both got zero nominations. In fact, The CW network as a whole only got one – a sound editing nod for 'Smallville.'

'Veronica Mars,' in the estimation of many television critics including myself, was one of the best shows on television during its three year run, and has exactly zero nominations during that time to show for it.

'Battlestar Galactica,' another show destined to be ignored by the Emmys, at least picked up much-deserved directing and writing nominations. Still, no love for the series as a whole, and the outstanding actors like Mary McDonnell and Edward James Olmos are ignored. Plus, it’s on cable (but not HBO), so even less chance it’ll get noticed."
