Who here thinks GoldenEye is the best Bond movie yet? From the action to the characters, this one triumphs over all the other ones IMO....

It's definatly the best of the Brosnan films but I don't think it's the best of the series IMO. Thunderball takes that spot for me but Goldeneye is certainly top 10 material.

I love GoldenEye, it's my favorite Bond movie.
It has some great action scenes and Brosnan is perfect as the modern suave James Bond. Sean Bean as Alec Trevelyan is also great, 006 is one of the best Bond villains ever.

There's one thing I've always wondered about though. After Xenia kills the admiral guy on the boat. Somebody uses his card with his picture on it to gain access to the boat with the Tiger helicopter. I know that was Xenia and a helper, but did her helper have plastic surgery or something to look like the admiral?

I don't think they actually showed his face at all. I always thought that was kinda weird. Maybe they didn't show his face so that people who didn't understand what was happening would start asking "didn't he just get killed in the last scene" or something. Anyone know if there's a novelisation or something that explains it?

my favorite...i loved how the villian is a "fallen angel" if you will, someone who is equal to 007, and also not some crazy mad-man trying to destroy/take over the world

Except he was going to destroy the world (at least financially)....and wasn't quite right in the head.

I think it is a great movie, is esily the best of Brosnan's (though The World is Not Enough was quite good) and the second or third best in the seriers. It just hit every note right and the first Bond movie to really sell as a great movie besides Goldfinger and From Russia With Love (though The Spy Who Loved Me was great in a campy way).
It is a good movie and I think Brosnan is the second best Bond (easily the most complex) and it has a great unique score that makes it stand out, the cinematography is very effective and not so workmanlike as the previous Bond films were and Sean Bean and Famke Jassen made some great memorable villains. Easily both in the top 5 villain/archhenchmen respectively.

And the tank chase is classic too though.

I hated the soundtrack, it was very 60ish. Aside from that it was a really good movie. The game for N64 was good too, I remember me a my friends would spend hours playing the mutiplayer.

And I was always playin Cradle mission to succeed in making Trevelyan fall off the satellite like in the movie... LOL sometimes I just couldn't get it so I jumped myself! Yeah finally a villain killing James Bond or almost!!! Very fun and good game

And for the movie : IT IS INVINCIBLE!!!

Yeah, that's always bugged me too, Falcon...right from the first viewing in the theater. They were basically recreating the whole Thunderball heist sans the details. Major plot hole. I assume perhaps it was Orlov with her, but he'd look pretty unconvincingly silly standing there with a fake red beard.

Plus the only other thing that irks me about the otherwise excellent Goldeneye is the way Boris' death was portrayed. It was easily the corniest, groan-inducing killing off of a villain since Moore shoved that gas pellet in Katanga's mouth, causing him to fart up to the ceiling and explode, during the climax of LALD.

Once, I thought it was Trevelyan, because you don't see him and he could have putr makeup and beard, but it should be Ourumov since he's the one getting out of the Tiger with Xenia at the Severnaya base. Here we go with what we seen but it sounds like this a lot.
And LoL to Kananga's death!!! Flying ripped clothes, that's the key!!!

No, Boris' death was genius as he was a underling anyways and not taken seriously and his death provided one of the biggest laughs of the movie.

I've been trying to figure out who the Admiral impersonator is for a while now, lol. I've come up with nothing. I think it is supposed to be Ourumov, but as you can clearly see, it's the same actor who played the Admiral. Yet I remember noticing that in the VHS edition (4:3 viewing ratio) of Goldeneye, that his face is actually cut off, only showing the fake ID and hand. But this still leaves the plot hole open as you can see the Admiral's face on the ID and still wonder how the impersonator is getting away with it. Perhaps Ourumov had access to some kind of special 'face maker' technology akin to Mission Impossible? lol

And as for Goldeneye in general, it's solid Gold. My favourite Bond movie of all time and one of my favourite movies in general. I love the music, the cast and the story. I love everything about it. In particular I love the action music heard in the archives and cradle scenes, and the cool music heard when Bond is walking out from the airport. It get's my 10/10. It's just a deeper movie than the one's that followed it, and that's why I think Campbell will do another good job with Royale. However I don't have much confidence in David Arnold doing the score.

We might not even be having this conversation without the N64 version. It took bond and gamer fans to a whole new world, through the scope of the movie. The game's better than the movie, unfortunately and i don't even play video games regularly. I'm a HUGE diehard bond fan, and NO, it isn't the best.

If Brosnan isn't the best bond (and who doesn't agree) then how can GoldenEye be the best movie?

aside from the fact that the car did squat besides having a proximity indicator (and making BMW money) It was a good movie despite the nit picking flaws

Well to me Brosnan *is* the best Bond. And if it's nitpicking you wanna do, let's talk about the strings attached to the airplane in Goldfinger...

GoldenEye is the best Pierce Brosnan film, but NOT the best Bond film in my opinion. It is great because it actually has a plot. Most Bond films are the same thing. For instance, what's the difference between You Only Live Twice, The Spy Who Loved Me, and Moonraker? Basically the same movie!

In GoldenEye the story is about Bond adapting to a post-Cold War world. The teaser of the film takes place during the Cold War. Then, the film starts nine years later. Bond is still living in the past and everyone is telling him to snap out of it. By the end of the film he finally does.

006: For England, James?

I'd have to say that Goldeneye is definitely in my top 3, right next to From Russia with Love and For Your Eyes Only.

GoldenEye just doesn't work for me.

On the plus side, I think Brosnan looks best in this (obviously, he was younger). He was lean and mean. With a proper Bond haircut, not the almost crew-cut he had in his other films. By The World is Not Enough, he was clearly physically past his prime. In Die Another Day, there is a brief shot of him running during the opening set piece that looks....well, like your dad running.

I think Goldeneye is one of the stronger Bond plots, especially considering it is set post cold war. Funnily enough I never even considered the admiral impersonator, but it must have been nagging at the back of my mind.

The one thing that got me is 006's death during the precredit sequence. I mean, how did that work. The gun obviously didn't have blanks in it. Bond could see what was happening, and at the range, even if Ouromov was aiming off, the muzzle flare would have burnt 006. Anyone have any ideas about this? I can only deduce that the sequence was badly shot and edited, and the effect was supposed to have Bond hear the shot, move into view, see the body then going back into hiding. Still, go figure!......

The thing with more IMO is that he was too old to begin with. He was 46 when Live & Let Die came out. Moore also seemed to corny for me. I like him better than Lazenby and Dalton, though.

As for Goldeneye, it's my second favorite after Goldfinger. Unlike the other Bonds that succeeded Connery, Brosnan brought something new to the table. Connery and Brosnan are essentially tied as the best Bond for me. They really nailed down the character IMO.

Anyway, Goldeneye is an awesome movie. 'Nuff said.

Goldeneye is one of three Bond films that I consider a masterpiece. The other two are Goldfinger and The Spy Who Loved Me.

The only thing that really bugs me about the movie is Alec's death at the end...

So he can plummet god knows how far from the cradle, landing on a solid block of concrete, but he's still alive to be killed by the cradle falling through him?! Never made any sense.

Other than that, it's really close to being my favorite, if it isn't my favorite. I really like all of the Brosnan Bond movies, and at any given time, any of them could be my favorite. But I think in the end it does have to go to GoldenEye.

In GE's favour, it does have a terrific climactic fight between 007 and Trevelyan.
