Default Johnny Cash's final album to released this summer!!!!!

JC's final recording will be released by Rick Rubin this summer! Can't wait.

source: http://imdb.com/news/wenn/2006-05-02/#2

The final recordings made by country music legend Johnny Cash will be released by his longtime producer and friend Rick Rubin this summer. American V: A Hundred Highways features a dozen tracks, including the final song Cash wrote - "The 309." According to Rubin, Cash felt a sense of urgency to record his final album after his wife June Carter Cash died in May 2003. He recalls, "Once June passed, he had the will to live long enough to record, but that was pretty much all. A day after June passed, he said, 'I need to have something to do every day. Otherwise, there's no real reason for me to be here.'" Rubin kept an engineer and guitarist on standby around the clock so Cash could record when his health permitted. He adds, "It's an amazingly sad album. At times it's hard to get through, but it's really beautiful. It's remarkable to hear an artist of his stature being so vulnerable and open and sounding strong so late in his life. I don't think there's ever been an album like this."

Umm..*yay*

Out of curiousity, the money from the album goes where? The surviving family right?

I'm guessing so, yeah. Or it might go to an Alzheimers charity.

Why would it go to an Alzheimer's charity?

I was, and still am, but I'm awesome like that. I was a fan way before Rick Ruben came along and made Johnny 'cool'.

A guy I work with was raving about the "Walk The Line" soundtrack and how awesome it was. I gave him an .mp3 of Cash's original version of "Cocaine Blues" without telling him it was actually Cash and told him to give it a listen. He actually said "That was okay, but I like Joaquin Phoenix's version better than that guy's". I wanted to choke him!

my mom listened to a ton of country when I was little , odd when I think about it.
she had dolly parton tapes, and kenny rogers and some June carter records, for one reason or another she had some early johnny Cash, and I really liked it.
but I first listened to Cocaine Blues back in 1989 and I was amazed.

My Granddaddy was REALLY into all that old country stuff: Johnny Cash, Charlie Pride, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, June Carter, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams. Of all of that, Cash was about the only stuff he listened to that really stuck with me over the years.

Sadly, not so much me. I was a fan of the famous songs like I Walk the Line, Ring of Fire, ect... I even defended him a bunch of times when my friends mocked him. Now that the movie came out, I'm a huge fan and I went out to get most of his stuff and I like 99% of it. Though I did start liking him after the move, I'd still consider myself a real fan.

i've never really listened to him all that much. i like some of his older songs and some of his newer covers, but i've never really been into country music, although he definitely transcends that genre. i did read his autobiography a few years ago and really enjoyed it. i was just wondering how many people are just swept up in cash's current popularity/craze. that kind of stuff fascinates me.

i've always been a fan of Cash's work. He truely is an amzing character. I grew up listening to him; Sunday in my house was always "Cash day" - we'd play his records all day sunday, and I still stick to that here in college (of course, I play his stuff just about every day). I myself and a guitarist/songwriter and his work really gets my blood going - its all very simplistic (heck, many of his songs have the same exact chord progression), but theres a sense of honesty and love of life and music in his voice that does something to the songs, makes them come alive and feel brand new each time I hear it. As far as the movie is concerned, if anything, it only rejuvenated my love of him. I am ecstatic about this "new" album coming out.
