Default Looks Aren't Everything...

What actor/actress in a comic book film LOOKED great for the part but in your opinion WASN'T right for it?

List is longer than I thought:

1) Halle Berry-Catwoman. Gorgeous, but her campy, Batman Returns-lite take on the character, really a character that wasn't even Selina Kyle, was like 40 years too late.

2) Halle Berry-Storm. Ace's in the looks department, but she didn't have Storm's gravity or regalness.

3) Jessica Alba-Sue Storm. Did better than I thought she would, but she still looks too young to be a scientist. I still think that Naomi Watts or Melissa George would've made better choices.

4) Tyler Mane-Sabretooth. Had the size, but too monotone. Wasn't the cool psychopath he is in the comics.

5) James Marsters-Cyclops. Really thought he was too young, and didn't have the gravity thing either, like Halle's Storm. Both seemed a little lightweight, esp. in the first X-movie.

6) Brandon Routh-Superman. I know I'm being unfair, but something about him, or the suit doesn't sit right with me. Also, don't like the choice for Lois Lane. He just doesn't look all that strong, tall, or super.

7) Jeep Swenson-Bane. Swenson had the physical dimension, but Schumaker reduced movie Bane to inarticulate muscle for Poison Ivy, totally robbing the character of his intellect and personality, two things that truly made comic book Bane one of Batman's deadliest foes.

9) Jennifer Garner-Elektra. She had the athleticism, but she didn't quite have the amoral assassin thing. I saw her as more of a lovestruck, vulnerable person, almost forced into taking on DD because of tragedy, and not a cold-eyed, thrill seeking assassin.

10) Julian McMahon-Doom. Has the looks, the intelligence, arrogance, and simmering menace. He's shown that on Nip/Tuck, among other shows. But his Doom was far too restrained and underplayed.

tobey maguire definitely

this is actually a hard question because most of the time i feel people look off for certain roles yet they put in a good innings to make it believable.

or as i like to call it, they 'do a keaton'

I personally thought Tobey did a Keaton.

Agreed!!!! Maybe more of a Charlize Theron??

In my previous post, if Clooney would've taken it seriously and had a really good script, he could've pulled it off nicely, but that's just my opinion.

well he looks parker enough for me but his spidey doesn't have enough grit.

and in the second film considering he was spidey a while, we saw very few signs of him being repressed having to live his normal life and that being spidey was a way of him dealing with the stresses of day to day life. even the ones we got, you'd have to read into them to get that from it.

spidey is actually a hard one, i don't think there's a possibility of any real person looking like him and being a hollywood actor.

he looked a lil too old for a bruce persona i thought.

i'm too used to seeing the animated bruce, i can't find an actor that resembles him enough to get away with it.

I don't know about that, I called Topher Grace from the beginning, as Eric Foreman he would have been a great sarcastic Spidey.

I always thought Charlie Sheen would have been good for the role, prettyboy and a good jawline for the cowl?

again animated spidey has influenced my decision, a real life counterpart is bound to upset.

Thanks, I think in a previous life I was a casting director, if not I should have been. Although when I first heard Keaton in the role of Batman, I was like, I don't know about that? Needless to say it's right up there with Reeve as Supes.

Ben Affleck. He's too much of a calvin klein model to portray any kind of devil.

I gotta respectfully disagree with you there, in the scene in the Niagra Falls hotel room, when he took off the classes and stood fully erect(haha grow up people, lol), he looked like 2 different people.

I'm With Allthings There; Reeve's Portrayal Was The Only Time I Ever Really Bought The Idea That Clark Could Hide In Plain Sight.

granted the perception of two separate beings was well done but clark doesn't need to be the anti superman for the point to go home that there's no way they could be the same person.

but i guess i've never been in that situation myself so i don't know where i would draw the line if i was put in his shoes/boots/whatever.
