Default Fan based Over exposure

Sometimes i worry to the extent that some of us on this board will go to into finding out all the details about a film before it's released.

Don't you find that knowing too much and perhaps input from other hype members at an early stage can heavily influence your opinion on a film.

I mean it's worse for countries that have premieres weeks after the states so all the boards go up and it's difficult to keep out of what's going on and find out opinions on matters of the film.

and instead of going in with an open mind, you end up having your opinion skewed before you've even seen it.

but that's normally at the later stage.

what i'm talking about now is the tv spot chasing, trailer viewing, constant spoiler searching for addicts that will do anything to konw what's on the film they are going to watch before they watch it.

Do you think there is such a thing as being overspoiled? and if so, what are your personal limits?

and before you start, i know that it's easy to say that if you don't want to get spoiled, don't go to those sections, but really the rest of the threads can be fairly dead at times and peer pressure can lead you to the dark side.

not to mention tv spots that you really don't have much control over (unless you cover your eyes and shout over the tv, which i've done on some occassions in the past before )

anywho, thoughts would be appreciated.

I think there is too big of an obsession for movies and the film industry to begin with.

Look at what happened with the Hulk movie. Fans became convinced the CG sucked long before the movie was even released, despite the fact that Hulk looked amazing in that movie.

well there is that point but still, when it comes to other genres there doesn't seem to be so much of an obsession to know what's going on as there is in the superhero action one.

most people would rather go in with an open mind it seems, there is definitely less exposure

or maybe i just feel there is less exposure because i'm not interested in those genres perhaps.

What they made the character do in CG was great . . .Still looked fake though.

let's not turn this into a film debating thread, it's not its intention.

Knowing the bloopers/editing mistakes does affect my watching of a film. I normally don't notice that stuff, but I found out about a few of them in the first Spider-Man film and found myself watching for them (and pointing them out to other folks). I still really enjoyed the movie, but it's conceivable that I might have enjoyed it more if I hadn't known of the editing errors. Still... I want to know the editing errors (I'm weird that way).

that's post watching analysis and that's all good and dandy

i'm talking about all the stuff that comes out before you've actually seen the film.

leaked plots, pictures, adverts, reading the adaptations in comics and novelisations, playing the game to get ideas of the plot, forever getting spoiled and spoiled till there is nothing unnexpected to see, removing from the movie going experience

I like to see trailers and read interviews, but there is no way I would EVER read a leaked script. What the hell is the point in watching the film?

I do my very best to stay out of forums, magazines, adapted books/comics and anything else that might spoil certain movies for me. i.e. Star Wars, Batman I avoided any type of spoiler because I wanted to be somewhat untainted when I watch a movie. I mean would people really want to know that Vader was Luke's father, Bruce Willis was dead throughout the whole movie. It just really ruins the movie experience.

But I guess it's the little kid opening the gifts before Christmas and then wrapping it back up.

but if it's so bad, then why are we all here, we can't all be here for just post viewing criticism...

or perhaps that's just what community is for, chewing the fat, until we've actually watched a film and can go and talk about it ideally.

like a lobby.

The sad thing is that when trailers or films get released, the sections dedicated to them here are so overrun with ridiculous posters and idiotic nonsense that I can't bear to post there, and instead just do any discussing in one of the run-on chat threads here, or through aim. Kinda sucks that it's turned out that way.

I never went into the FF, X-Men, Batman or Superman forums with any spoilers before the movie is released .

I remember there was a thread about what picture is your favorite now and it showed a scene from ROTS and it kinda pissed me off because it wasn't any warning/spoiler and the the thread read innocently enough.

for spidey 1, i read the graphic novel and watched the trailers

for the first x-men film, i went in just watching a few trailers

for x-2 i only read the graphic novel (which was quite a lot better than the film, so i ended up dissapointed).

with spidey 2, i got a glimpse of doc ock when the pictures came out, and his tentacles, got spoiled by only fake spoilers, saw one trailer but tried to stay away from the hulk

ff got nothing

elektra got nothing

daredevil got nothing

begins hype got me hating the film before i saw it, costume and tumbler news drove me.

returns costume news has done its damage but have new faith in those trailers

all blade films left me unnaffected because i stayed away from their stuff

rots was pretty much spoiled before it went into production.

hulk i only saw a few trailers and a couple of pictures in magazines, (actually the negative feedback from the hype at the time caused for me to like it more because i went in with serious negative expectations and i was fantastically pleased....eventually).

for catwoman there was a negative vibe going around already, i couldn't enjoy it if i tried

for constantine, i stayed away from the hype boards there

same for incredibles

ultimate avengers i tried to stay away but i couldn't and i got mixed reactions and felt the same way about the film.

being spoiled for episodes doesn't seem to bother me, it's just for the big films and dvd releases that gets on my nerves, but it seems to be getting worse and worse...

i mean why does a film need 10 separate tv spots as well as tons of leaked footage as well as the graphic novel being out.

it seems that x2 has set the benchmark for spoiling (not counting rots) and spidey 3 is only going to make it worse.

how can we enjoy something that has been discussed for 18 months before it comes out to every single minute detail available.

i'm just worried that what i consider to be our hobby is going to start becoming less and less fun with the indepth pre-viewing analysation and all we are going to be thinking about when watching is whether are previous assumptions were correct and we can't wait to get back onto the hype and get on with the 'I told you so' or a 'i saw a reflection of the camera man' kinda talk.

we're breeding nit pickers...

Sometimes it's the fans themselves that ruin it for me. I had a couple of friends at my last job that were rabid Star Wars fans. Basically had the attitude that if you didn't think SW was a great movie than you were an idiot and "didn't get it." When AOTC came out and I expressed my complaints about the movie they were downright pissed. I never saw so much hatred for someone else's opinion over a movie. It was because of them and other type SW fans on the internet that I got totally turned off on SW altogether.

it's not the films i'm 'worried' about, it's the posters and there ability to tear away at all the scraps of info possible which i can't see doing anything to ehance their final viewing pleasure.
