Default My Legion of Superheros conundrum

I love Mark Waid's Legion. Absolutely love it. But I sometimes question: Was it right to undo the Legion that came before as if it nver happened? I mean, they had close to twenty years of continuity under their belt, some great stories, and some storylines that were still left unresolved. Was it a good thing to simply un make that series, even though the current Legion kicks so much ass?

Eh, I've got mixed feelings as well. On one hand, I love what Waid is doing write now. He's one of the best writers in the industry, and it definitely show with his Legion.
Still, I was a fan of post Zero-Hour Legion and am still kind of sad to see it all go.

Legion of Super Heroes was always kind of like Teen Titans.

It's all new and exciting while they are still teenagers, but when they get older they sort of start to falter.

And since the book takes place in the future, DC can get away with rebooting it every so often.

I find it interesting to read about the different eras of the Legion, and see which one is each persons favorite.

i had to bump this thread, to share my problems about the legion. forsome reason the tone of the book has changed, before the OYL jump the book was getting a bit darker the teamwas dissasembling. now the book doesnt even have that momentum anymore. i also dont enjoy supergirl in the series. she needs to go.

She brought a certain light heartedness with her. Which I don't think is necessarily a bad thing. With the last issue I see the tension within the Legion once more. I think the appearence of Supergirl was a brief respite from their infighting.

The best era for the LOSH was the late 70s/early 80s - solid gold. Wildfire and collosal boy ruled

...It was Colossal Boy Boy in the 70's/80's.

I liked the 3rd series.
I really enjoyed it when they did get older, it was cool to be able to trace back all the years. They were perhaps the only continuity in the DC line that actually aged in somewhat real time. Also as a female I love the kinda drama/relationship soap opera that went on.
*Still think Dream Girl and Star Boy should have hooked up*

Right now in the comics it feels like it's dragging. It's all action/politics and no character development with inner-personal relationships. Supergirl is like a fluffy little feather brain which I find annoying because in all the other old Legion comics she was strong within the group. Also the fact that
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
she was given Dream Girls flight ring
causes me to resent her.
The comics seem to drag with her, like she's an extra layer they laid down without creating the ground work.

But that's just me.

The Legion run from the beginning to the Crisis was the best era in my opinion and my all time favorite comics. They also had the longest running continuity. Most of the characters and plot ideas used in later versions were invented then.

I can barely tolerate Supergirl in the current LoSH. She's gone from being a pugilistic douchebag in the present-day DCU to being a ditzy moron in the 31st century. Neither one suits her very well. I'd prefer to see more of Brainy's clashes with the other Legionnaires and some more intergalactic political themes.

Supergirl throws in something new to the mix. She is the Legions most powerful member, is time displaced and thinks that she is dreaming up everything.

Seeing the teams reaction to her has been nothing less than interesting. And her having Dream Girls flight ring only raises the tension.

My only regret is not getting to see a Superboy in the Legion.

That's one opinion. I think Waid's time could've easily been spent on much more interesting subjects than Supergirl, though. Apparently the current Legion hasn't heard of Daxam either; Supergirl would've been nothing special if they had.

Yeah. And, personally, I wasn't fond of the "stopping an earthquake by whistling" thing. It seemed a bit much.

And I'm not really seeing the Legion 'react' to her. It feels as if they're glazing over her.

The characters since the leap forward one year have gone from being interesting in the way they treat others and handle problems to...they feel like cardboard.

There are no relationships. The dialogue is stilted and more imformative about their world than about how the characters feel towards each other.

Supergirl in the Legion is a very cool idea, however I think the way they did it was a little sloppy. The last few issues have been mind numbingly boring. No interesting character interaction, they're all following Supergirl around like a bunch of zombies, the mentions of Dream Girl and Garth's thing are there only for continuity there is no real addressing of the situation, and there aren't even any interesting 'hints' as to where or who Supergirl is or came from.

The only reason I haven't dropped it yet is because I'm hoping that in the near future there will be a coherant arc to make it all come together.

Did the book actually jump ahead one year? I thought that it was one year later for Supergirl, but nor for the Legion.

The cover of the first OYL issue says "3,001 Years Later" on it.

You mean "1,001 year later," right? Anyway, they gave no indication in the book that it was one year later. No major roster changes or anything like that.

Yes, I did mean that. Shut up.

Yeah, I was confused about whether it's actually a year later for the Legion or not. There's nothing to really show that it is. At the very least, you'd think relations between the SP and the Legion would've improved a bit after a whole year of joint operation. They seem to be just as obnoxious to each other as ever, though. Plus, it wouldn't really make sense for the Naltorians to just now be asking for Dream Girl's body and sending a replacement for her if she died a whole year ago fighting Praetor Lemnos' goons.

I think it was meant as a joke. You know, everyone else is on year later. Legion is one thousand and one years later.

I only have the new Legion up to like issue 5 (whenever Praetor Lemnos first appeared), but I just have to say, I loved the story they were introduced in. Well, not so much that, as much as the one immediately preceding it. That reminds me, I didn't know the Titans spoke Interlac.

The Fatal Five Hundred (shouldn't it have been Seven Hundred? I saw Flare and Caress in there) totally won, if memory serves. Right before that future got eradicated, or whatever that was. I never cared for post-zero hour legion. The reasons are manifold; Everybody needs a new name why? "Live Wire" might sound kinda better than Lightning Lad, but it doesn't particularly sound like Garth.

My best version of the LOSH was in the late 70's/early 80's.... THAT stuff kicked so much ass.

But the current stuff is good.... I'm just a cranky old man.

Anyone else notice in Infinite Crisis that Shikari who got lost at the end of the Titans/Legion crossover found her way back to her Legion in issue six?

Kind of confusing, but it was nice to throw it in.
