Iron Man and Civil War

With Civil War taking hold of the Marvel universe, do you agree with Starks position, being pro registration or think he's lost his mind since he injected himself with the Extremis virus?

In the spidey prelude to civil war and the illuminati stark explains that heros will be cracked down hard on if they dont go with it, even a public execution of spidey. I think stark feels he knows whats best even though people dont see his point.
In spidey you find that he doesnt agree with the registration but that its inevitable and its better for the super hero community to go with it than against it.
Thats how I see it.

I haven't really been following Civil War to close, but, it seems they are not sure what they want Tony to be, one minute he's paying off Titanium Man to attempt a assasination, then he talk's Parker into revealing his identity, are they trying to make Tony a bad guy or is he trying to make people realize how important the pro-registration act is.

He revealed his identity again, too, I think. How did people react to it in the comics?

I think the whole Extremis making him go crazy thing is lame. Hes clearly shown in the Iluminati and during Civil War that hes thinking clearly and knows what hes doing. it would really be out of left field.

Sometimes, I'm not quite sure if he knows what he's doing anymore. I mean, isn't this the same guy who went against both friends and goverment to get his technology out of the wrong hands during the Armor Wars?

Marvel is writing this as a metaphor for what's going on in this country right now (Patriot Act, wiretapping and the such) and clearly Iron Man is the George W. Bush of this story.

Whether you like that or not is up to you. I hate Bush so of course I dend up despising the Pro-regs ogic here and it annoys me even more that Spidey somehow is a puppet for them and betrays 40 years of backsotry (**** I have issues just from a year ago where he confronts JJJ and says he can never reveal his dentity because it is too dangerous).

Another metaphor I see in Civil War is that industry(IronMan) makes the laws in this country instead of American Government (Captain America).

Actually, I think Tony has the courage of his convictios and is doing what he percieves is necessary. In real life I detest Bush, I am very liberal, but I am pro-reg. Why do people equate SH Registration with being Republican? Need I direct you to gun registration, championed by the Democratic Party? Both SH Registration and Gun Registration are RIGHT, they are the right thing to do, they will make it much safer for a lot of people. Tony is being a hero, and so is Spider-Man, by doing something they don;'t necessarily like for the good of all.

Its not the act itself, its the execution of said law. Do we send troops from the national Guard to arrest people with unregistered weapons?

I see it differently in that the laws are made by the civilian representatives of the people/private citizens(Iron Man) and some military people(Captain America) believe they are right and that the ends(civil rights) justify the means(lawlessness). They forget that we have institutions in place and ways of filing grievences to deal with any civil rights abuse(the judiciary). I have yet to see any of Cap's group use the legal system to keep their rights(if indeed vigilantism can be called a right). Vigilantism has always been illegal but now it's being enforced.

The Superhuman Registration Law is flawed, but fundamentaly correct, IMO.

Registration and proper training for heroes is hard to argue against. What I do have serious problems with is the aspect that all heroes then have to operate essentially under SHIELD direction and control. Do they even have to option to give up their costumed personas and fighting crime? Jessica Jones seems to be fully retired from superheroics, but she was also required to register. Also the treatment of the anti-reg heroes goes beyond what was being done to date when holding true super-villains. It is just way, way overboard and written in such a manner as to paint the Pro-Registration side, and Iron Man in particular, as being firmly in the wrong.

I wouldn't mind the Act if Millar wasn't portraying it as so overwhelmingly evil.

I'm enjoying Civil War, but really. I mean, just the way they're going about enforcing this law is ridiculous. You don't see police storming into a grocery store to beat down a guy who stopped a kid from stealing candy. People make citizen's arrests all the time, or at least they used to - they didn't get tossed into a cell next to the guy they'd brought in.

I fall on the side of anti-reg, but I have to say, this is a very close one for me.

I do not in anyway think that Tony's being portrayed as a villain, in fact, as issues go by, I find that they're showing more and more that Tony Stark is trying to do his best in a messed up situation. I really do.

I do have to say, think about it guys... Would you really like it if there were people in masks, in your neighborhood, blowing things up, killing/beating the snot out of other people with weapons that could rival the military?

And to make it worse, it has happened so often that these end up becoming personal vendetta's, and some of your friends and family have become canon fodder?

This has happene SO MUCH in the MU now, it's only realistic that the public would say that they've had enough. In the Stan Lee era, it was fresh, so it could be excused somewhat.

But NOW, after 4 and a half decades where we have 1000's of stories where all sorts of crap gets blown up in personal super human fights, and innocent bystanders are constantly the ones that die, I think that this out come is only realistic.

I know if I was a regular person in the MU, I'd really have something to say about mysterious people with nuclear weapons coming out of their hands roaming around my neighbourhood.

I really believe that Tony Stark is not being portrayed as evil. I've been following IM for a very long time now, and I've been picking up CW and all of the stuff surrounding it, and I have to say, especially very good reason to behave the way he is
